VDR for single entry visa

@Gravitas- hi i have received VDR letter from my employer and i have to visit Malaysia embassy for single entry visa formalities.
Pl can you confirm the process/ requirements of the same. How many days it normally takes?
Also , Do I need to book my flight ticket before getting single entry visa or i can plan tickets post endorsement of single entry visa.
