Fencing in Belize

Hi Folks,

We're planning to move to Belize and doing some number crunching at the moment.

There are 2 lifestyles we're looking at and they are wildly different but both still appealing.

The first is a gated community which is pretty straightforward to do number crunching for.

The other option is to buy property and build on it ourselves.  And this is were I'd love some help and guidance.

We're looking at something with relative size, somewhere between 20 and 40 acres depending on what we can get for our money and where.

My question is, can anyone give me a rough idea what fencing costs per meter (or whatever unit of measurement works best)?  Most likely chain link fencing and steel posts.

If Belize is anything like here, prices will differ based on the area.  Since we don't know exactly where we'll settle the prices don't have to be spot on, just a rough idea would help greatly.

Thanks in advance.

Astrid

If you are able to be here for a while before buying and ask around with local people, you'll get a way better deal. Most belizeans don't list with real estate companies. If you're willing to be sort of remote, you can pay 1000 per acre. Of course you might have to put a road in at those prices. Obviously you won't find anything Oceanside at that price. Building prices also vary widely depending on what you want to build. I have no idea about fencing, but hopefully someone here has some experience. I honestly haven't seen very much chain link fencing.

Most folks if they ae building have the general builder put up the fencing. but there is a menonite company in Spanish lookout that advertizes  itself as a Fencing company. For pricing at a distance I would estimate as if building similar fencing at home and hope to be surprised if it is less. My neighbor (Belmopan area) recently put in nice green chain link and post fences but had his building crew put it in, don't know his costs but he said it was a lot cheaper than getting in the fence company.
