Just for the fun of it for retiree's - what

Post new topic

As a retiree what do you do with at least some of your discretionary time?

One of my pleasures is  to go look for police check points. I love it when they stop and I have to show them my Thai drivers license. Does anyone do any coloring, wood carving, or drawing? I've done some of each. Does anyone go to meetings, or other venues, to learn outside of their box? I recently found one place that even posts presentations of their speakers, seemingly in perpetuity. I was reading one presentation that demonstrated the complexity of a Thai decision making process. There is no one set process set in stone, according to this presentation and my observations, (For a few decades I was within an arena in which there could be over kill of information.) I know there are those who go off to the night scene, but I'm asking what people do for satisfaction. I could have a sort of (short term) thrill of absinthe but will it give me satisfaction.

I know one of my pleasures that gives me pleasure and satisfaction is to enjoy talking with a Thai and enjoying the Thai style point of view, even if it doesn't fit into some fixated matrix, that ultimately isn't relevant to a conversation with a Thai. It's still a pleasure to understand the differences.

Any idea's or interjections. Your input could be helpful to both yourself and to all who read this.

You with the shoes that will outlive you need not brag about your toys.

I like to go hiking in the mountains with my wife during some of my discretionary time.  Because I actually hike, I end up wearing out my shoes and find it necessary to buy new ones from time to time. :P

Standing on a mountain summit after a grueling hike and staring into the distance at endless peaks and valleys is very satisfying.

This question was meant for people who had a thought, not an extension of nonsense.

Villagefarang, I always enjoy your pictures, Thanks for Sharing.  Do you ever get insect bites when you hike, my wife is so sensitive to the outdoors, we like to hike in Oregon every year, but she still gets bitten.

Gotta love those mountains! I love to hike.

I like beach combing, talking to street dogs, taking photos of odd looking things as well as the usual, sitting and soaking in real sea water -- Gulf side usually, getting a massage, checking out arts and crafts, talking in body language with my neighbours as I learn the art of Thai speech, going to the temples with my extended Thai family, taking short hop flights, forever exploring, etc, etc. Oh yeah, shopping for things I need in a hardware store and trying to communicate my needs, and visiting music stores -- hanging out and jamming with the players. dcb

Never done that

After many years back home sick and in pain and therefor i stay in my apartment all the time, in my bed, TV Chair, Or in front of the pc.

I love that i can here in Thailand walk, bicycle around.

I like to go to the beach, walk in the water, Swim, Sit and relax near the water, As the water calm me and all ways give me positive energy.

I like to look at everyday Thai live, Can sit and look at it for hours and hours.

Kindly.

We have never had any problems with insect bites.  There are fewer bugs during the winter months in Thailand and we cover up wearing long pants year round.  Hiking near a waterfall means more bugs so that is something to consider.

After a series of profanity laced insults delivered through the private massage function on this forum, bill has assured me he has gotten it out of his system and will no longer be trolling me or my hiking shoes on this forum.  Time will tell but I somehow doubt he is done with me yet.

To everyone else, I am glad you liked my hiking pictures and thank you for sharing your own thoughts.

Just thought I would add a little color to our dreary little forum.  Here are a few shots from my walk to the dam today.

Those pictures are just what I needed. We are in California visiting friends & am sick of it, want to return to Thailand. We feel like we can’t stand California any longer, people are mean & selfish, and it is so damn Expensive. We are going to return early. Love to see your place someday.  My wife’s nephew just married a women from Chiang Rai, we plan to visit there more often. Thanks for sharing.
