DISASTER: Car scrapping or fixing...

Post new topic

Hi everyone, me again!

So long story short, bank and house sorted. We decided to drive our old Audi over here with some stuff in it so we would have a car while we sorted ourselves out and before we bought another car here. Then of course it dies, quite possibly the turbo gave up the ghost. It is a 2.0TDi A6 Avant. Currently been left on the side of the road where it passed to the choir of the invisible. We do have European recovery so we can get it towed but we are unsure what to do with it.

The plan was to use it for a few months then once we had a new car we would sell it or scrap it. Now things have obviously changed. So couple of questions once again for all the incredibly helpful people here!

How do we scrap a car here?
If we don't scrap it, any recommendations of trustworthy mechanics to get it moved to?
Any recommended dealers for a cheapish runabout, thinking maybe a SWB 4x4 (Jimny, Rav4, etc.)?

Thanks in advance to anyone that helps, we honestly cannot thank you enough already for the advice we have got from this forum!

Good to hear about the house and the bank.

As for the car - shit happens. Not much to say about it.  I can help with a skilled mechanic.

Your options are:

1. Repair it - either a new turbine (if this is the problem) or a second hand one - much
cheaper.

2. Scrap the car and sell it part by part - higher income but prolonged in time.

3. Sell the car as it is - probably 1000 BGN.

4. Sell the car to a scrap car dealer - again approx. 1000 BGN. / depends on year and brand.

Did you manage to reach Sofia by the way ?

Hi Kristiann,

Absolutely agree, shit happens and fortunately we are in a position where it doesn't affect us too much.  However it is still a pain in the arse!

We would really appreciate the details of a good mechanic, then we can get it recovered straight to them so they can have a look and tell us the damage!

We did make it to Sofia, we have been settling in, unpacking, building furniture, etc. However we do have to go back to the UK to finalise some things in the next week which we are not looking forward to. It would be nice to finally relax and enjoy our new surrounding but there is no rest for the wicked!

Thanks for the response and if you could give me the details of your mechanic then we can try and sort out getting the car moved so they can have a look at it.

Thanks :-)
