NON EU CITIZENS APPLYING FOR A UK WORK VISA

As a general note to all, the UK is very restrictive on work visas for non-EU citizens, to the extent that it has a "Shortage Occupation List" and then on top of that uses regional quotas for those who actually qualify from that list, so even if you find a job and an employer who will employ you, if the quota for the period has been used, you will not get a work visa.

In addition, Work Visas are by definition temporary and should not be regarded as a way to guarantee permanent residence anywhere in the UK.  They do give you the ability to request permanent residence, but there is no guarantee it will be granted and you may have to return to your home country at the end of your visa.

NOTE - THE DETAILS IN THIS POST HAVE NOW BEEN REPLACED BY SKILLED WORKER VISA - YOU CAN READ THE DETAILS AT THIS LINK.

Hope this helps.

I have a tier 2 staff visa, and have worked in England for (so far) 4 of the past 6 years (1 1/2 years of that I was out of the country).  What options are/will be available to someone like me to obtain a permanent visa or to retire here?

Difficult one with no clear answer; this link will take you to the UK Gov website where it will take you through your possibilities.

Hope this helps.

I am aware of the website.  Yes, nothing clear

Hi there,

Let me input my thoughts regarding your chance to apply for permanent UK citizenship. Make sure, if you have been working for the same employer for consecutive 5 years. Then it will give a green light for your UK citizenship application.

Good luck!

It becomes even more confusing when you consider Turkish citizens. There is so-called Turkish-Business Person Visa which is very atypical. You get a restricted work visa which entails you to work as a self-employed person.

is there any way to work as a self-employed person to get a work permit? as I am clinical psychotherapist and can do therapy through private practice or tele therapy independently

Hi again.

We've had this conversation before; nothing has changed, if anything the UK has become even more difficult.  The UK has now introduced a new system that will be introduced at the end of this year, this link will take you to the UK Gov website where they describe it.

Hope this helps.

First of all, go to our Thailand forum (link).  Top of the page is a link to our housing section.  Click on it - et voila.

Thank you for your helpful advice and a detailed description of your services. I have long wanted to come to Britain and see everything with my own eyes. I like your country and I am interested in its history and way of life. I travel often but have never been to England. I'll be there soon. I want to see cities and rent a motor yacht in 2yachts.com to get around the UK by sea. So, most likely in December I will come to visit you. Getting a visa is not a problem

thanks

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

If you do not have a visa to enter the UK, then you will not be allowed to enter the country.

Hope this helps.
