Hi
We are thinking of spending several months of the year in Kuala Lumpur. Just wondered can anyone tell us if the broadband speeds are ok to stream YouTube videos and sports games etc in Malaysia?

We are travelling through here at the moment and have not been able to stream any videos due to slow broadband speed. This is with maxis.

Does it depend on which apartment building you are in etc. any recommendations for provider.

This aspect would have a big bearing on whether we moved here or not.
.thanks in advance.

Yes they usually are fast enough and also  through mobile internet.

The reason you're having problems is using pre-paid the max speed is lower than post-paid mobile data contacts.

You will probably find lots of channels are blocked in Asia but using a VPN may overcome this.

The best provider is TIME but minimum contract is often 2 yrs. But they can offer a one year but there is a surcharge of rm500 I think.  Not all buildings have TIME but you can check coverage at their website

Only modern buildings have fibre connections from street to modum. Most buildings still have copper.

Qualifying for a long term visa is probably also a top consideration.

Thanks gravitas for that helpful advice.   I’ll follow up on those points you raised.
