Room Without A View (Ads)

Has anyone else noticed the flat (apartment) ads that speak of a 'sea view' or having a balcony near the beach or 'a great view', but the photos provided rarely seem to include an actual photo of the view?

Wassup with that?

The view is often from the rooftop terrace, I've seen it so many times.  There was an advert on an apartment with view of Downtown Saigon.  IRL, the apartment was 11 km away and a building or two in Q1 can be seen from the terrace.

Brokers here are very unscrupulous. They post fake ads all the time. The websites wont remove them as they are paid ads.

Preserve the fake ads at all costs!

But don't get caught posting personal... (I know...I know...) 🤣

The lesson is easy, and well known.
Many estate agents are the result of an unmarried mummy and daddy.

"grr...grr unscrupulous realtors"
"grr...grr market is overcharging westerners"
"grr...grr fake North Face"
"Vietnamese can't be trusted, immoral culture, " and many more unprintable descriptions of the people.

Sorry to disagree!
And it isn't Vietnam, it is common to all developing 3rd world economies. Westerners, by conditioning, expect to be coddled and protected by big government against those dirty corporations. We demand the government to have a military to protect us from foreign invaders, and consumer protection laws to protect us from evil big business. (Attitudes lingering from 1960s leftists?)

After living in a nanny state, the most surprising thing about Vietnam is the freedoms which I never expected.
Freedom from enforcement of petty laws
Freedom from over regulations to save me from myself
Freedom from personal injury lawyers, and insurance premiums because of.
Freedom from a road rage society of self-deputized policemen

I think private enterprise is great. Capitalism is growing this country and raising standards of living.

Of course there needs to be a certain amount of planning and regulation. Sure it would be nice if there was a way to report crooks and thieves. I wish there was better traffic enforcement to protect my life from maniacs. Sanitation, water testing, food regulations could stand improvement. And how can I shut up the karaoke and roosters?

I am sure that measures to give more power to individuals will come, but for now, it is a too much a wild frontier for many westerners to adapt to, it is not for everyone. Unlike the west, here you need to take personal responsibility.
Don't believe the advertising.
Do your due diligence.
Go to a dental clinic with western standards.
Live in better constructed buildings.
Have plenty of cash on hand for emergencies.
Carry Imodium and Neosporin, watch your valuables, etc.
To me the freedom is worth it.

Ok I'm going to the store now. I'll be sure to use the crosswalk.  ;)

We are looking for a new house to rent. All we keep seeing are fake pictures of places. Dishonesty is rampant here. Seeing as this is a Viet Nam thread, its relevant to talk about Viet Nam, not compare to other third world or developing countries.
