Shipping Time from USA - FEDEX INTERNATIONAL PRIORITY

My ATM card was due to expire, so I called my Charles Schwab Bank support number.

They took the order at 10:PM Saturday, September 8, Vietnam time/date. The new card order was due to be processed on Monday, September 10, USA Eastern Time Zone, shipping to me FEDEX Priority International from the USA state of Virginia, 20153

The card arrived at my hotel in Hanoi yesterday evening, September 20th. It works in the ATM machine, so the magnetic strip is still good.

Apologies that I can't provide cost of shipping, but since I mentioned to Schwab that I was calling long distance from my local cell phone, they offered to waive shipping costs.

I like that  :D

[ADMIN: I wasn't sure how to categorize this. It's more about shipping time than about banking. You decide..."Moving"? "Everyday Living"?]

They should have a tracking number so you can monitor it from your computer or phone. I just sent some documents to England - took just a few days.

Are you sure it was actually shipped on the 10th?  That would mean a 10 day one way trip which is way too long.  If you still have the tracking number, you can still run it even if the package is delivered.  You may find that the bank actually posted it a little later than they said.

My passport renewal from HCM consulate took less than a week and was a two way trip (application out and passport back).   This was not my shipment but for the consulate.   The clerk told me that they send out and receive a packet every day.

First, mine was sent "priority", which (I'm pretty sure) isn't the fastest option. I thought there is a two day option, and something close to overnight?

Anyway, in my case, it turns out it was picked up on Wednesday the 12th, sent from Virginia > Indianapolis > Anchorage > China > Hanoi ... and then there is some sort of a 'retro' note after it arrives in Hanoi, that there was a delay in China ... then it's back in Hanoi after clearing customs ... into the hands of an "unknown" third party, THEN on the FedEx vehicle in Hanoi for delivery on TUESDAY morning the 18th, and delivered to my hotel Tuesday morning at 11 AM...

Which means I'll be finding out why it sat at the front desk for over two days. I'd maybe still be waiting for it if I hadn't noticed a Fedex envelope on top of an inbox on Thursday night at 11 PM ("No, that's not your's...")

So when it was shipped on the 12th it was already the 13th here...so 4 days to Hanoi and an extra day to my hotel.

My BofA credit card was hacked a couple of days ago, with 7 unauthorized charges to Netflix.  Seven in 2 days!  Have no idea what Netflix offered that was worth stealing someone's credit card number for.

Anyhow, last night, I called BofA collect and the agent dealt with everything pronto.

This afternoon, UPS record showed the envelop left Louisville, KY at 4:05 AM.  That's EDT, 11 hours behind Vietnam, or 3:05 PM, Saturday Sept 22, Vietnam time.

UPS says scheduled delivery time is Tuesday, 09/25 , by end of day.

Not counting Sunday, the day everything stops at UPS, that would mean 2 days from KY to Vung Tau (don't know what kind of service BofA uses, but the agent told me it'll be no charge to me.)

I've never had anything sending here so we'll have to wait and see if two days is what it truly takes.

BTW, the agent told me originally that it would take 10 working days so I gave her the VT address instead of Australia where we've been for almost 2 weeks and will continue to stay for the next 2 weeks.  Now I don't know if anyone at the apartment building will accept the envelope for me.

Then I left my beautiful hat at Cairns airport this morning!  Darn it.  If it's not one thing, it's another.

One exception to that rule is that a dedicated UPS plane does leave Ontario, CA seven days a week for Hawaii.  When it lands on Sundays, because they own the plane, it can sit until early Monday to be unloaded.  I don't know if the same general rule applies for going to Asia but it may.

The weak link for these international services in Vietnam is final delivery, especially outside of HCM or Hanoi.  I sent an envelope to Ben Tre not long ago on FEDEX but they failed to deliver it as they could not find the house on the unnamed street even though they had the Khu Phố which should have narrowed it down to about 40 houses.  They could have stopped anyone in the lane and asked, but they sent the packet back to Tan Son Nhat.  An apartment in VT should be OK as long as you trust the security guards in the parking lot  :sleep   which is probably where UPS will drop the packet.

I don't know what hat you had but I used to wear a NZ made cowboy hat to work.  I think the AU hat is similar.  It is more comfortable than a US cowboy hat as the brim is about 3/4 as wide.

The street in VT, luckily, is one of the main streets, in the sense that a great majority of expats live there in hotels and small apartment buildings.  Ours is more like a house, with only 5 stories --  one apartment for each entire floor --  a grand total of 8 tenants at the max.  We don't actually have security guy, just a Jack of all trades (and he is truly excellent at all trades) who sits in the living room downstairs playing game on his phone all day because there's nothing for him to do (what problem can 5 apartments create?)

I already texted him today, telling him to watch out for the UPS guy.  The mailman and DHL delivery guy on that street got off their motorbikes and talked to everyone each time they had anything to deliver.  I hope they're doing the same thing with mine.

The hat I just lost was a genuine Panama, a Montecristi hat handmade in Ecuador.  We took the bus from Manta to Montecristi, spent the whole day there watching the hat being made for me.  Then I took a handpainted silk scarf from XQ in Da Lat, created a hatband to replace the original linen one.  It was my best hat, most beautiful, carried so much history, and now some woman probably kept it for herself without one iota of appreciation.

I've been sad today, but I'm like that red head Annie, the sun'll come out tomorrow and I'll be OK again.  And I'll find myself an Akubra hat or I'm not leavin' !  (Akubra is similar to your NZ cowboy hat.)

I received my card at my US address then my family shipped via DHL to VIETNAM. It cost $112 for 3-days shipping.

:o

I think I can wait longer than that...

My credit card's itinerary, as of today:

Incheon,  Korea, Republic of    09/23/2018    12:53 P.M.    Arrival Scan
Anchorage,  AK,  United States    09/22/2018    10:54 A.M.    Departure Scan
Anchorage,  AK,  United States  09/22/2018    7:32 A.M.    Arrival Scan
Louisville,  KY,  United States    09/22/2018    5:20 A.M.    Departure Scan

I haven't been to Korea, but my credit card has.  That's the first.

Good news / bad news:  "Scheduled delivery information is not available at this time. Please check back later."

The service the bank uses is UPS Worldwide Saver, which, according to their website, means  "Second business day delivery by the end of the day to most destinations in the world.  Day-definite delivery by the end of the business day to other countries, depending on destination."

Don't know to which category Vietnam belongs on their list of destinations.

Seriously, I don't really care when the thing arrives.  It would be better for me if the envelope just sits in Korea enjoying the country for a week or two until I get home from our trip.
