Hi there!
Can anyone comment on how easy or otherwise it is to bring a dog into PNG? Is it common to have pets there? Is expat housing generally suitable for a fairly active 2-year-old collie-X?
Any advice will be gratefully received!
Thanks,
Nay

There are people that have brought in dogs.  It's all about finding the right accommodation.  Also, it's fairly easy (I've heard) to get animals in, but difficult to get them out (quarantine issues outside of PNG).  Be sure you'll be here a while.

Nay, have to agree with Wendy - we are in process at the moment, and were considering taking up our dog from NZ.  However, I was concerned with the repatriation issues, the heat, and the amount of stray dogs (and associated diseases) that I saw when I was up there a few weeks ago.

We decided to rehome our dog - which wasn't easy, but I think much better than taking him up to POM.  I didn't see a vet anywhere either, and didn't expect to.

You made the right decision in re-homing.  I'm currently doing volunteer work in POM, make sure you join some social groups otherwise one can get cabin fever as security is a major priority.

Hi all,

Thanks Aaron - my hubby came to the same conclusion after a brief visit last weekend to check it out. I think we've decided it's not for us, partly due to the dog - but also because I work from home and am very reliant on fast, stable internet access which it seems can be hard to come by in PNG! Plus cinnie I would probably get a bit of that cabin fever... there's only so much women's groups and sitting around the Yacht Club one can take :-)

Thank you for your advice all - wish you well wherever life takes you!
