Train booking

The sort of man who buys life insurance and values low drama in his life would book the train ahead. He would consider the $18 tickets a trifle extra, relative to the expense of his long flight.

Whereas the free-spirited live-for-the-moment adventurer will defer evaluation of travel decisions until reaching the fork in the trail, or the departure board at the train station.

Tripadvisor reviews will give you a (very) good warning of what to expect

Forewarned is forearmed.    Sure, do it for the (ahem) experience and (er...)
'free-spirited adventure'.   A good precursor for (changing) your mindset.

(Western) expectations always exceed.   Be careful of what you wish for...   

The upside?   A good lesson to learn from in understanding Viet Nam.
