Receiving mail in Bulgaria

How do you get your post in Bulgaria in rural areas? Am I right in thinking it goes to the village shop and you collect it from there? I have also heard that the post is rather unreliable and often things go missing is this true?

Hi Greenergrass,

Yes, the letters get delivered to the post office in the village. Because our road doesn't have a name, we named our house 'Apple Tree Cottage'. Then we went down to the post office and gave our names and the name of the house to the post lady. We gave her a scribbled map to show which house we were talking about.

We've never had any problems with the post there. Sometimes we collect the post ourselves but, if we don't pick it up after a few days, the post lady brings it round or gives it to one of the neighbours to take to us. It always arrives.

I've found the postal service in Bulgaria to be more reliable than the one in the UK!
