Clearing your belongings through customs in Egypt

Hello everyone,

During one’s big move abroad, shipping personal belongings to the host country can be stressful. Customs regulations differ from one country to another and you never quite know what to expect when trying to recover your belongings once you’re settled. How about helping expats considering moving to Egypt by answering some questions about custom regulations?

What are the procedures to get your belongings cleared by customs once you have arrived in Egypt? Who do you have to contact and how do you get in touch with them? How do you go about from there?

How long does this process usually take?

How do you then carry your belongings to your new home?

Are there any items that are restricted by customs in Egypt?

How much does it cost to get your belongings cleared by customs in Egypt? Does the cost change depending on the amount or on certain specific items?

Do you think it is better to seek the help of a contractor to get your belongings cleared in Egypt?

Please share your experience,

Priscilla

Bringing my stuff into Egypt was nothing less than a nightmare a disaster. Customs here cannot even have a professional conversation they lock them selves up in some building near the airport and they act like animals can’t speak to them when you do get there they’re rude.

I went through a company luggage movers who used FedEx who was also the biggest disaster ever for FedEx I would never use FedEx after my experience I lost a breathing machine that was $2500 they wouldn’t allow it into the country after they held it for five months because it was used of course it was used I have COPD and I used it every day I have to get another one here that’s not counting the $3000 I have to pay the luggage forward to get my stuff to Cairo total disaster.

They have no policy is no procedures they just tell you that’s the way it is! That’s the rule! It’s nothing less than a hot mess.

Now I don’t bring anything in unless I can carry it myself
I don’t recommend the customs in Cairo Egypt to anyone at anytime they are a disaster

Hi Priscilla...its a normal Customs procedure ..so far as my experience I dont find any difficulty...I'm a Malaysian and my husband an Egyptian...I use to go back to my origin country 2x times a year...
If your belongings are suspicious by Egypt customs yes of course its take some time for a proper checking ...
But anyway ...in Europe it's more strict...
I'm prefere my own country anyway...

I fight with customs in the beginning
after 13 years they all know me
do not mess with me
I know every one and
I fight to win and do always
now it is salaam and hi and well welcome back
and never touch my bags
