Ramadan in Malaysia!

Post new topic

Anne-Lise Mty

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all doing alright. To help expats and expats-to-be who might not be acquainted with the month of Ramadan, we have put together a list of does and don'ts.

Of course, we might have missed certain things which might be specific to Malaysia and if there are things that come to your minds, please do not hesitate to reach out and share your experience with us on this thread.

I hope you all have an incredible week-end!

The most interesting part of Ramadan for foreigners in Malaysia are the wonderful markets where often dishes not available at any other time of the year can be savoured.

Iftar buffets are also a good way to be introduced to Malay or Malaysian-Muslim cuisine. Many hotels will offer them and somes restaurants as well.

Do adapt your expectations if dealing with officials during Ramadan because working hours are reduced during the month. This can have an impact the following month, when Raya is also being celebrated with Open House events and balik kampong (visits to family homesteads)
