In intense traffic, by the airport. A young guy/girl (looking, of course, very miserable) walks from car to car on the passenger side, looking inside. Once he/she sees something interesting: a cell phone, a handbag etc, he/she knocks on the window as if wanted to ask something. Once you open the window, if you open a little it will be forced down, anything within his/her reach inside of the car will be grabbed.
A few feet away, there is his/her partner on the motorcycle, and they speed away into the night.
No use of weapons of any kind has been reported.
Conclusion: pay attention to your surroundings; under no circumstances open/unlock your door or windows, there is nothing, no one can ask you while you are on the red light among dozens of other drivers.

When locals can't find jobs or find jobs that pay $6 / day, they are going to resort to petty theft (think of it as self employment). You've got your reasons for going and being there. For me, it was not worth the risk.
