Hi guys,

I am living in Lithuania but because of our economical circumstances I am thinking of leaving country. I am young and ready to work.

I don;t have friends or relatives here, so I have a saving ready to support myself. I found a job in car factory which I am ok with. But on top I want to work as a bartender to have less free time and earn more money until I will build up my stability.

My question is how taxes works in UK? I tried this tax calculator it gives me the numbers but I don't get how it's calculated. Sorry if my question is weakly formatted, but I just have no idea. I header gossips that if I work two jobs taxes will 'kill me'. But gossips are gossips, that;'s why I am here to get an proper answers.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Tax rates are as follows:

Band                           Taxable income         Tax rate
Personal Allowance    Up to £12,500         0%
Basic rate                   £12,501 to £50,000    20%
Higher rate                   £50,001 to £150,000  40%
Additional rate           over £150,000         45%

So, up to £12,500 you pay no tax, income between the above figures is taxed at the rate stated.  On top of this, assuming you're an employee, you will pay 13.8% National Insurance and then on top of that is local Council taxes.

This online calculator (link) is, in my opinion, about the best there is.

Hope this helps.
