Help regarding Colombian Property sales rights ?

My wife and I of 5 years live in the USA but her kids live with her ex in Colombia.
Her ex wants to sell some property he claims are in the childrens names and is asking
that she send a copy of her Colombian passport and sign some papers so that he can sell it.
My wife has never signed anything or bought any property with him.
My questions is does his request sound odd and should I seek a Colombian lawyer
before she sends him any paperwork ?

Your help would greatly be appreciated.

Sounds odd to me too....I would highly recommend consulting a lawyer here before signing anything....Who knows what he has in mind? Could be a form giving away all rights to the kids...
