Hello, I am new to this blog. I am moving to Mombasa in a month. I am single and I would like to have some tips on prices and safety so that I don't make mistakes. Besides I would like to know some people already living there since I don't know anyone who lives there.

stay away from the call girls at all costs - mombasa is sin city - dont get hooked by the laid back life - good feelings and great entertainment esp at nights and on weekends (clubs, bars discos, casinos etc) - u'll blow all your foreign currency savings away - other than that you should be more specific - what prices (more cheaper than Nairobi) - which area are you in - check out the malls - nyali, likoni etc and you will get a fair idea of whats happening - lived in msa for 3 years - best place in Kenya (other than Mara - where im now) in my opinion

Yes,

1.Keep away from call girls .Do not overspend in casions and nightlife.
2.Be careful with local Kenyan friends .You will have to spend on them on outings as the locals believe that the expat has to spend on them and not the other way arnd.
3.Do not lend money to maids, drivers, junior colleagues.May not be returned.Politely decline and make some excuse. If you give once you have to give again and again so say no the first time.
4.Do not flaunt your money in front of the locals(maids, drivers).
5.Phones are expensive.Be careful.Use the internet calling facility from nakumatt for international calls.Quite cheap.
7.Do not go to lonely, sensitive areas.Do not wear jewellery in public.Do not carry much cash.Avoid public transport till you get to know the city well.Go out in the nights with a person familiar with the city or wait till you get familiar with it.Shopping in Nakumatt is safe.
8.Take necessary vaccinations.Malaria seems to be frequent ,but never heard of any expat catching it in 3 yrs i was there.
9.Mombasa has lot of expats .You will make friends soon . The city is relaxed and beautiful .The best place in East Africa.Social life is good.
