Help; buy used car in Italy, drive to Rotterdam & Ship to Canada

Hello there EX-Pat forum members,

Firstly, understanding forum etiquette, I I searched and could not find an answer to my query.

I am a Canadian, that has found a used car in northern Italy, that I'd like to purchase.   I'd like to have it temporarily registered, & insured, so I may drive it north to Rotterdam, so I can ship it home.

Has anyone done similar?

Does the Italian Motor Vehicle registry, allow this?   Temporary In-Transit Permits, are what we call them here in Canada/USA.    I actually bought a car in Phoenix AZ, and drove it home, and imported it, so I am familiar with importation law here in Canada.

Being quite adept with "google", etc, normally I feel I'd be able to figure this out, but despite the online translation services offered, I cannot figure out the Italian Motor vehicle website.

Any wisdom shared, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks kindly

You need to be an Italian resident to be able to buy an Italian car and register it.
