Permanent resident visa travel

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can tell me how long I can stay out of the country on a permanent resident visa? - my resident return expires in 2022 , but I have elderly parents back in the Uk and I may need to go home for a year or so .... also if I reapply for extension on resident return ( the next five years ) do I need to have been in the country for a certain period of time to do so ? It’s a little confusing and I am having difficulties contacting someone who knows - we have worked so hard to get our PR we don’t want to lose it .. citizenship is taking too long at the moment - 12-15 -months and I may need to get home sooner - any help please? 😊

Hi,
Australian permanent visa needs to be renewed every five years otherwise you will lose your permanent visa.

In order to get the 5 years permanent visa for the second time, you need to stay in Australia for at least 2 years while holding 5 year visa for the first time. This 2 years residing time does not need to be consecutive but accumulative.

If you need to leave Australia for less than 3 years, it fine.
