# Required Documents for Marriage Registration

For Foreigner:
1. Copy of Passport Profile Page (Notarized and certified by your country and Legalized by Vietnam Embassy)
2. Copy of Used Passport Pages (All Visas and Stamps, Photocopy only)
3. Single Status Certificate (Notarized and certified by your country and Legalized by Vietnam Embassy)
4. Certificate of Mental Health from Vietnam

For Vietnamese:
1. Copy of National ID Card ( Notarized )
2. Copy of Family Book (Notarized)
3. Single Status Certificate
4. Certificate of Mental Health from Vietnam

++ 1 Application form for Marriage Registration obtainable online and 2 copies of Passport size photos for each person

# Process of So Tu Phap / Department of Justice

> Submit all documents to So Tu Phap
> So Tu Phap / UBND (People's Committee) can translate foreigner's English documents, therefore no need to translate your documents in advance. Just submit foreigner's legalized documents in English.
> Confirm with So Tu Phap when you should come for Marriage Certificate. It takes few working days of processing. It took me 4 working days.
> Go to So Tu Phap on the specified day, check the spelling on your Marriage Certificate, attend an interview with the Head of So Tu Phap with help of a translator, introduce yourself, answer funny questions, sign certificate, take photos with the Head of So Tu Phap, ALL DONE.
> Pay 2 million VND (May vary)
> Get 2 Original Marriage Certificates
> Make photocopies of Marriage Certificate, go to notary office and notarize copies of marriage certificate for using later.

# Process of Certificate of Mental Health from Vietnam

Name of Hospital: Bệnh viện tâm thần
Address: 766 Võ Văn Kiệt, Phường 1, Quận 5, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
Room Number 118, 1st Floor of the hospital, left side.

Required Documents:
1. Take Forms from the nurse, fill up and submit.
2. 4 copies of Passport size Photos.
3. Photocopy of Passport (Foreigner), National ID Card (Vietnamese)
4. Pay 1.5 million VND for immediate service. Get certificate within 1 hour.

> Attend an interview with the doctor, answer funny questions.
> You'll get 3 copies of Certificate of Mental Health. Submit 1 copy to So Tu Phap. Keep 2 copies for memory.
> Check spelling on the Certificate of Mental Health.

# Visa Exemption Certificate (VEC)

> If you are on Tourist Visa, it is required to get VEC before you can apply for Temporary Residence Card (TRC)
> After getting VEC, it is required to exit and enter Vietnam to get new entry stamp of 6 months.
> If you want to stay short term in Vietnam, enter and exit multiple times a year, then VEC is enough.
> If you want to live in Vietnam, getting TRC is necessary.

Required Documents for VEC:
1. Application Form
2. Photocopy of Passport, Current Visa and Entry Stamp
3. Photocopy of Marriage Certificate (Notarized)
4. 2 copies of Passport size Photos
5. Original Passport

Address of Immigration Department: 337 Nguyễn Trãi, Phường Nguyễn Cư Trinh, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh

Payment: 10 USD (by yourself)
                  150 - 200 USD (by Visa Agent)

# Temporary Residence Card (TRC)

> Prerequisite: VEC
> TRC is valid as ID card, Visa for entry and exit.

Required Documents for TRC:
1. Application Form
2. Sponsor Form (Stamped by local police)
3. Photocopy of Passport
4. Photocopy of Marriage Certificate (Notarized)
5. Photocopy of Vietnamese Sponsor's ID Card and Family Book (Notarized)
6. Residential Document from local police
7. 2 copies of Passport size Photos
8. Original Passport

Address: 196 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Phường 6, Quận 3, Hồ Chí Minh

Payment: 155 USD

### Register with local police every time you get new visa / VEC / TRC / Entry Stamp

Thats good for Saigon, but not relevant to other provences/ cities. Each place has their own interpretation of the law. Also, the mental health check was to be made null and void, looks like that hasnt happened.
