Hello everyone,

Whether you’re a history buff or not, here’s a chance to learn about the history of Bulgaria. Below are a few trivia questions to test whether you have the correct facts.

1. Name 3 iconic monuments/structures in Bulgaria
2. What is the name of the national anthem? When and by whom was it created?
3. Name 2 eminent national historical figures
4. When is the national day celebrated in Bulgaria?
5. Which are the most important turning points in the Bulgarian history?

Thanks for participating,
Diksha

Data gathering at its finest.

Just a tip: don't write on the title "just for fun" because people are not that stupid :)

Hardly data gathering, all the information can be got by Google. The idea from these posts is to keep the forums active and following.

Well maybe I really am that stupid so here goes nothing:

1. Rila Monastery - largest in Bulgaria, over 1000 years old and a
    Unesco world heritage site.
Roman Theatre of Philippopolis - partly restored and nearly 2000
years old. Still used for concerts today.
Tsaravets Fortress - Medieval fortress located in the ancient capital
of Veliko Tarnovo. Location of the royal palaces in the 12th century.

2.  The current national anthem is the "Mila Rodino" which means
     "Dear Motherland".
It was written by Tsvetan Radoslavov in 1885 as he left to fight in
the war. The text has been changed many times since then.

3.  Belisarius - A general,  circa 500 AD.
     Constantine V - Emperor, 718 AD.
Baba Vanga - Blind mystic and clairvoyant, 1911 - 1996.

4.  National Liberation day is celebrated on the 3rd March.
It marks the signing of the San Stefano Peace Treaty 1878, when
Bulgaria gained independance after 5 centuries of Ottoman rule.

5.  The signing of the San Stefano is also one of the most important
     turning points in Bulgarian history.
Another turning point would be the 9th September 1944 when
Bulgaria was invaded and ruled by Russia for 45 years.
(Peoples Republic of Bulgaria existed from 1946 - 1990.)

Cheers from Australia.
