Hi, we currently live in Spain and are considering moving to Bulgaria in the new year. We are UK citizens and would like to open a guest house, but we are unsure what areas of Bulgaria would be the best for this type of venture? We also want to know what the situation is regarding state health care? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Priscilla

Hi benestepona,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

I would invite you to have a look at the Living in Bulgaria guide section, you will find some information about the creation of an enterprise as well as other information on important matters for expatriates.

Why did you choose Bulgaria as your next destination?

Thanks,

Hi Priscilla,

Thanks for your reply.

We are choosing Bulgaria as we are looking for a change and the property prices are such good value in comparison to other European countries.

How long have you lived in BG? Could you recommend some good areas to open a guest house business?

Thanks, Ben =)

Welcome, Ben :)

Priscilla is one of the admin team on Expat.com and doesn't live in Bulgaria.

Just a thought you might wish to take into consideration is Brexit and how it might affect you.

Thanks for your advice Evtra...In regards to health care, do you know roughly how much I would need to contribute to get state health care? My partner has a heart condition and needs medication, would the cost of the medication be covered? TIA

Hello,
I have inquired about private health insurance through Uniqua.BG and the cost was approximately $20 USD per month. I am unsure of the benefits. I also inquired trough Expat here about prescription medication, too. I have a link to an online pharmacy I can share if you desire.  Lastly, it would be wise, in my opinion, to be able to access healthcare services from an English speaking provider, unless you are fluent in Bulgarian. The UK Embassy and the US Embassy provides a list of English speaking healthcare providers.
