Thailand was getting far too problematic and less attractive, so after living their 4 years, I left!

I have decided to call Da Nang home, for now.

I have zero friends here..so you anyone wants to meet up for a beer of coffee..please PM me. Cheers!

EDIT:   oops this was supposed to be a reply to the "new members" post. Sorry :)

Best Wishes - I left Thailand after 10 years and settled in Vung Tau early last year - I could not be happier

Thailand has lost its way since military rule which is a real shame.

You'll likely meet many people who have made the move from Thailand to Vietnam. I left back in 2007 after living there 12 years about six months after the coup d'etat in Oct 2006. When the possibility of a 'counter coup' was mentioned to me, I realized that the situation would not improve. Having spent about half a year in HCMC in 2004, I chose to return even though it didn't really appeal to me.

Unfortunately, if you have any expectations that Vietnam will be like Thailand, especially in terms of food and dating, you'll be sorely disappointed.

However, VN has improved a lot in the last 15 years and become a more comfortable place to live (once you get used to it), but it still lacks much of a fun factor. Other good options in the region are still limited. Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are not really going anywhere. And then you have Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, which don't quite fit the bill for me.

So, that leaves Vietnam, where if you focus on the positive aspects and don't make comparisons, you can have a pretty good life.

in terms of food, Vietnam is great, lots of dining options available. The dining in downtown hcmc will rival anywhere. If you come here for woman, comparing it to Thailand, and it's ease, u will be sorely disappointed. If you come here looking for a lvely gal, it is heads above Thailand. With a bit of commitment, the Vietnamese ladies are wonderful, not the Thai prostitutes. The Vietnamese woman are not going to jump in the sack first date like their neighbours. A friend just left with his tail between his legs, got put in his place from the viet gals.he likes to play the same game he does in Thailand. Fun can be had anywhere here, but not with legitimate Vietnamese woman on the first date. If it's purely fun your after, hcmc, Hanoi, rival bkk, pattaya. If you are after a beautiful charming lady, Vietnam is fantastic.
