Good morning everyone,

Whether it's a simple cold or a chronic illness, medication and medicine use vary from country to country and culture to culture.

When you are used to certain brands or types of drugs, being in a country like Oman with different rules can affect your daily well-being.

Some drugs also differ in name, price, dosage, active molecule, so we would like to hear your opinion on these issues:

Have you ever had difficulties finding familiar or useful medicines for your health in your host country?

Have you ever been faced with a shortage of medicines in Oman?

Would you have said that in Oman drugs are more or less expensive than in your home country? Do you find them more or less effective or of similar quality?

What is the place of alternative medicines in your host country? Have you ever used them?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Loïc

Medical facility is the best in Oman among all GCC countries, plus the medicine prescribed by doctors are mostly imported from UK or EU countries so you can trust with regard to quality.

Medicines are really very costly because there is no production of medicines rather dependent on foreign supplies. Other than that medical related issues like seeing the good doctors, hospitalization is very costly.

Hi Dear, thanks for your questioning, here is some of my experience .as i worked in UAE for 7 years and Oman sometime , there are some drugs is more effectively for some kind of illness, some no. and compare price also is high or low accordingly. but as most of drug material are from china, sure the medicine made in china is more cheaper. and mostly my experienced was difficult to find Chinese herb or Chinese treatment here. actually for normal illness sure an operation or surgery is more efficiency  and quick. but for chronic illness Chinese herb and Chinese treatment are the most effectively as my experienced.

Good Health for everyone - the healthcare in general is ok, but I found some differences to what I was used to: sometimes a medication (in my case Buscupan) was not available in Mucat Pharmacies - which was surprising for me as this chain in very large - I found in a small pharmacy a similar product. Some medication is very expensive (e.g. Omnepatzol) and others at a normal level. As a Company can sell the same medicine with different name in different countries it is normal that you have to check the active ingredients to compare the prices. But what you will never find are the medication which contains ethanol (=alcohol) of course. Natural remedies - as I am used to - are not available in the pharmacy - Homeopathy is not existent - most doctors rely on antibiotics even for virus infections.
