Yes resilient for now...but not sure for how long!
On a brighter note, my b.i.l (uo) was recalled to start work 2moro at Metro Surigao. Instead of 6days/week it will be reduced to 3days/week, but they at least managed to retain all the staff!

:/

Looks like the highway workers getting ready to go back to work cementing the shoulder of the road in Santa and Manueva, 60 bags of Portland Cement stacked in the plaza.  Then again rainy season starting in a few weeks.

manwonder

On the 12th of May 2020

Today 5.30pm there was a *free delivery to all residents in our barangay...compliments fm our barangay captain : 10kgs rice only :o  !
I will reserve this for more needy family members/residents!

lasvegan

Yup that's what we did also!

manwonder

Today we had a visit by a lady fm the barangay centre....For a moment I thought she was on the regular food ration exercise...instead it turned out that she was fm the health centre to check if families in our barangay required free family planning 'procedures' that are being provided at our local health centres...I hope they have the blessing from the church.

Big Brother doesn't really bother with the normals like me anymore, nor does it bother with many people who don't look good in bikinis.

Good to know that the lock down and curfew in your area is being supplemented by food and spiritual aid from the health center.  Free family planning procedures is certainly an ambiguous term, let us know any details after your briefing.  See how easy it is to stay on topic?

manwonder

Yup....Life here is full of ambiguity...and It works just fine!

Today (June 04th/1700hrs) Our barangay captain made availabe a 7kgs rice pack for all households.
Received with thanks.
As usual wll reserve this for more needy family members/residents!

Sept 10th is our Surigao Fiesta Celebration Day.
Big plans have been made to boost the flagging spirits of local residents...will keep you updated.
My flight out of here was to have been on the 08th but due to lockdown that too has been cancelled.
Any lonely/stranded expat around this area may pop in anytime for lunch/red horse free flow @ my residence.
We *may include a fire works display around 9pm..we'll see how it goes.
Cheers

Richard Yan

Have a many happy hour.  You so generous.

Thanks Richard you are most welcome.

Sadly the 10th Sept Bonok2 barangay celebrations were all cancelled due to the pandemic....It was sad so I decided to bring some cheer to the villagers children by promoting our very own 'ukay ukay' cheap sale bash over the last two Sundays..plan was to bring some joy to the villagers/children living around our area who are mainly fisherman folk at a very affordable prices.
I had made a large order from Shopee which was home delivered COD. (Total cost : 8000p)
Items sold ranged fm @ 10p to 40p/item (@cost + tiny profit for me cover transportation)
Approx 10 different items were hand carried by partner & older kids into the village whilst I sat in my shiny blue multicab wearing my mask & holding on to the hand pump that were used to inflate the 100+ pcs of 9" balls that had a one way air valve.
(All balls sold out in 2 trips  :D )
Overall 70% items I purchased have been sold out in the 2 trips....& still have reservation order for last few items which are  coming in fast.
I'm sure the kids will be overjoyed with the small but cheap presents that were purchased by their parents.
Hopefully I did my small little  contribution in helping the healing process at near 0 cost to me.

Good to hear from someone in the area, and better to hear that you're ok.  Some of the pictures I've seen of the flooding indicate that others did not fare quite as well.

Thanks Teejay...Yes we were indeed lucky...not too sure about the other areas affected...in fact I had put on alert another two expats/families who live next to my residence to join me & to be ready to move to lipata hills if anything serious were to have happened yesterday.

When I first read your I was thinking Bison's and I was think someone spotted a Bison close to Surigao City.

In the states I often bought ground Bison in the place of beef, it made for a much more flavorful burger.

We faced some strong winds/rainfall through the night but nothing too serious.
Nope no bison here but we do have lots of bisongs.

Who cares about curfew (10pm-4am).
At this age, do still go out beyond 10pm?
Yeah, you get up really early and per but you're staying home.

Yes, they are really clamping down to try and avoid people gathering and drinking and spreading Covid. In some countries a curfew is ALL they had to do to bring the numbers down.

FortuneFavorsTheBold

Three words: Natural herd immunity. Since when did viruses know how to read clocks? Curfew 🤣😂

manwonder

Today once again we are having a bright sunshiny day with occasional strong gusts of wind....Maybe I should have just opened a new tread as my only urgent concern was the typhoon bising which luckily passed us by without leaving too much destruction.
Yup the covid curfew is still ongoing & I really have no problems/issues with that.

pnwcyclist

LOL, FortuneFavorstheBold.. it has nothing to do with the virus knowing the time...  obviously..

It's what people do when they're out drinking. You know it and I know it. Probably an indoor setting. Inhibitions lower, social distance evaporates, loudest voices prevail. All conducive to spreading the virus. Yes it's spread primarily by aerosols.

But sadly, herd immunity may be reached before enough vaccinations are done in poor countries. Unfortunately that means many more will die, including dedicated front-liners, and the virus will mutate further. Brazil is a good example. The longer the virus is in circulation the more opportunity for mutation. And then your immunity don't work no more.

The magic word to me Typhoon while my wife and I were living in the states she talked to the PH several times a week. I always would ask her what's new in PH? so many times she would say Typhoon.

In the states it would be a Hurricane. Florida really has a lot of Hurricanes so on the news you would see businesses boarding up windows, lines of cars miles long fleeing the coming Hurricane and driving hundreds of miles.

The part I liked best on the news was watching people in high rise ocean front property having Hurricane Parties.

So hearing my wife talk about Typhoons & Rainy season in the Ph, I really wanted to experience a Typhoon. I've been waiting three years here in Manila no Hurricane.

What i found out is that
Typhoons are generally stronger than hurricanes. This is because of warmer water in the western Pacific which creates better conditions for development of a storm. ... Even the wind intensity in a typhoon is stronger than that of a hurricane but they cause comparatively lesser loss due to their location.
Nope never seen/heard of any typhoon parties...however we did have a party of lumberjacks who were seen cutting down trees that had been dislodged by typhoon Bising.

This last one strengthened from wind speeds of 90mph to 190mph in 36 hours. That speed of intensification is previously unknown, especially this early in the season. Fortunately it has remained offshore as it travels north.

Yes just facing that kind of 2nd hand  wind speed/intensity from shore was scary enough for all of us.
