Curfew in Surigao City (w.i.e)

Sunday Afternoon : Surigao City (Town Centre)...Only major Markets/Provision stores/Food Courts remain open, nearly everyone (70%) seen wearing some form of face mask (Ninja Mask Style/not the N95's) and seen running/dashing as if trying to outrun the virus. 
All other major retail shops/malls remain shut. (Which was quiet shocking!)
Prices of some grocery items seem to have actually fallen, maybe due to less demand from customes, many good bargains to be had.

We have had one in place for a few days now. Don't know the exact time it is in effect. My wife does. It has been a very peaceful week. The lgu is doing a great job. Due to social distance a van ride that used to cost 50PHP is now 250 but at least you get the row to yourself. One more week of this.

The only things we could not find in the store was rubbing alcohol and cracked black pepper. Those things are always running out even before.

No. The other provinces around us are held until mid April.

What will happen in this province is that the in-province travel restrictions will be lifted.

Restrictions will still be in place for going outside the province.

But things will not be ok even by mid April. Things may never be ok again. I think we will go through waves of this.

The governor here issued very clear directives on travel passes and made it clear that they are to be one per household and are transferable to anyone in the household between 18 and 60 years of age.

But it is not being implemented this way. There is one pass for travel within a municipality and a different one for traveling outside the municipality and neither is transferable. They are trying to work this out as I type this.

Just found out last night that karaoke singing (in-doors of your own home), thats even before the start of curfew time of 10pm is now also banned!

Yes a slight improvement in residents being forced to be more  respectful and responsible, but nothing else!

Have not seen any significant sign of panic buying by the locals!....Here at least locals are generally poor (mainly daily waged workers), and I guess many would just be happy if they had a sack of rice ('LOP' or Land of promise 50kgs sack would cost abt 1700p/month)!...I've seen that the average pinoy family easily consume approx 2kgs of rice per day (family of 3 adults/4 children) ...Rice which is the staple diet is being consumed 3 times/day.
With the current curfew/lockdown, and the thousands of residents that were laid off/loss of income; I'm worried that starvation would soon be a serious problem in the coming weeks, if things remain the same.
No wonder even 'Karaoke Music' has died!

Btw  the only consolation is that the Philippines *maybe the best prepared in Asia for any kind of recession!

Went to check on the local grocery stores available stocks/prices.   
Prices have increased significantly!...Eg the price of the LOP rice sack is now 2100p...thats a 400p jump (25%) in 2 weeks.
Gasoline is now 40p/ltr, used to be 50p/ltr...looking at it going to 30p/ltr in the very near future.

Today morning there was a *free delivery to all residents in our barangay...compliments fm our barangay captain : 3kgs rice / 2 packets of noodles / 1 tin of beef loaf (150gm).
I am indeed grateful for this kind gesture shown towards alleviating the pain the local residents are going through.

You might want to move to Manueva, Santa, Ilocos Sur.  Each of the last two Tuesdays we received 5 kgs of rice, 3 tins of sardines (6 oz) and 3 packets of noodles.  The first week we also received 25g of Nescafe instant coffee and 250g of sugar.

So many big/small Fishies In the Deep Blue Philippine Sea...we are but the small little fish swimming in the surigao sea!

You can tell me all those at your heart´s content. But what I miss in Santa, Puro or Vigan is the "Ipon"
and "bulidaw." Just two kinds of fish native to that area. The kappukan, it´s been awhile. That could be kalding or aso.

You mean you haven´t eaten even a "kilawen nga pasayan"? Ask your wife what that is and she´ll agree that it´s good even if it´s alive. You should be adventurous and try it sometime!

If you don´t like it alive then make a delicious ceviche out of it. Calamansi (a small local lemon) is abundant in Santa and so with laya (ginger).

Calamansi is a lime. I have about twenty of the trees. They are about half the size of a golf ball and go well with everything.

but they are more limish than lemonish

Stock delivery seems to be a lot lesser, hope it still helps alleviating some of the pain the local residents are going through. I will reserve this for more needy residents!

Maybe I got screwed...with the amount being distributed...going to check & kick ass if required!!...On hindsight I'd better be the brains behind the kick ass!

Today 9.30am there was a *free delivery to all residents in our barangay...compliments fm our barangay captain : 5kg rice / 6 tins of Beef Loaf  (150gm).
Stock delivery seems to be getting further delayed/insufficient quantities.
This time we appealed and managed to secure another 5kgs of rice + 6 tins of meatloaf. Hope this will help alleviating some of the pain the local residents are going through.
I will reserve this for more needy family members/residents that seem to be growing by the day!

There is some village 'gossip' that many younger ex.surigao residents whom are now located in Manila, will slowly but surely make their way back here due to lockdown in Manila, where many small businesses have shuttered and mass unemployment may have taken hold.

Surigao City is now officially on "GCQ" mode today! ...But STILL major shopping centres/malls remain partially shut (excluding the grocery sections)...With NO tourist arrivals/Mass Unemployment/Still requirements for social distancing/mask wearing I don't see things getting back to normal so fast!
My b.i.l (uo) who has been a Metro Surigao employee for 5yrs (Bags section) has not been re-called for duty as yet!

Funny...Used to hear loud 'motivational' stereo sounds around this time just yesterday, that too has DIED....maybe the barangay residents like myself just received our power consumption bills for the month, which has shown a slight increase in prices!
