Hey expat members,

right now I am currently facing some financial trouble because of covid. I'm sure a lot of you can relate! I am a student and so my options pertaining to that are limited or at least that is what was told to me.
Now I read a lot about Bafög but I never really needed it before loosing my job. But now I probably have to apply for it or take out a KfW loan.

Can someone help me/ recommend one to me? I am not an expert on these topics. Maybe some of you can recommend a third option???

Non-EU students are supposed to have at least 10240 Euro/year in a blocked bank account for living expenses. They are allowed to work in addition up to 20 hours /week to supplement this. But the whole point of this requirement is to make sure they can pay their own way.

Yet the Federal Ministry of Education and Research: Federal Training Assistance Act (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz, or BAföG) does offer scholarships even to foreign students.

I am posting 2 links to the German Academic Exchange Program (Daad) site that give information about such scholarships and the second link should be the data base for what is actually possible to apply for. Any foreign student should know the Daad site as the most reliable source for information about all subjects pertaining to studying in Germany – rather than relying on general information from a site about debt advise.
