Hi all,

It's my first time posting here.. Please be kind :)

[Background]

I am a female Singapore Citizen (Chinese by race) and my spouse is working in Singapore under Employment Pass (Chinese by race, from Southeast Asian country not Malaysia). We didn't plan to apply for LTVP as he already has EP.

Recently, his boss mentioned that the company is not doing so well so there might be lay offs soon. We were afraid that my husband might be affected, so we submitted Pre Martial Assessment for Long Term Visit Pass so in case he got laid off, he can still apply for LTVP. However, it was 3 weeks before our planned ROM. Eventually, we did the ROM last week with Pre Marital Assessment status still pending.

[Questions]
1. Will there be any issue with Pre Marital Assessment or LTVP because we got ROMed before Pre Marital got approved? We applied 3 weeks before ROM though
2. ROM website only mentioned that if there is no Pre Assessment, LTVP will take up to 6 months, but if Pre Assessment got approved first, LTVP will only take up to 6 weeks. Has anybody been in my situation (ROM while pre-marital assessment is pending) before? If yes, how long did it take?
3. I have not receive notice to do Marital Preparation Program yet, but I heard that some couple might need to do it before ROM in order to get LTVP. In my case, if I need to do it, I have already got married, so can still do MPP?
4. Should I contact ICA to ask to speed up the processing of Pre Marital Assessment because we are already married, or will it be detrimental (eg. ICA cancelled our Pre Marital Assessment coz we are already married, so need longer time for LTVP)

Any sharing or advice of similar situations are welcome. Thanks :)

You both are married but where? In Singapore or his home country? Secondly, if you both are married then in ICA and MoM the record must be there, then Pre Marital assessment is no longer valid.

Secondly, you mean you don’t have registration of your marriage in Singapore? In a common case when a Singaporean spouse got married, he or she has to register his or her marriage to obtain marriage certificate here. So, in your case is bit confusing.

Anyway, leave aside, LTVP will be approved based on your income so you must be earning a decent salary (at least 3.5k to 4K) or else high possibility that request won’t be approved. You can directly apply LTVP, no need of any Pre Marital assessment. You may reach out ROM office for their guidance.

Secondly, with LTVP he can’t work here. He must have a sponsor in order for him to work. Earlier, LTVP+ was issued by ICA which allows to work but I think ICA has stopped it.

Yes, you can contact and request ICA to speed up the process.

Hi Surya,

Thank you for your reply. We have checked today that the Pre Marital Assessment for LTVP has been approved just today :) So it is possible to have Assesment approved after ROM take place.

Replies below in case in the future there are similar cases looking for answers in this forum

Singapore, under ROM/Registry of Marriage

Secondly, if you both are married then in ICA and MoM the record must be there, then Pre Marital assessment is no longer valid.
We applied for Pre Marital Assessment before the legal marriage in Singapore, just that the outcome of the assesment is not out yet at the date of legal marriage (Assesment resultcan last 4 weeks, we got married 2 weeks after assessment submission)

Secondly, you mean you don’t have registration of your marriage in Singapore? In a common case when a Singaporean spouse got married, he or she has to register his or her marriage to obtain marriage certificate here. So, in your case is bit confusing.
I have clearly mentioned that we went to ROM on my original post. This is ROM in Singapore. Not so sure which part is confusing

My income is 9k. Understood that can directly apply for LTVP but on ICA's website, it was mentioned that with Pre Marital assessment, the whole process is at most 4 weeks + 6 weeks, while without it, can be up to 6 months, that is why we decided to do the assessment

Secondly, with LTVP he can’t work here. He must have a sponsor in order for him to work. Earlier, LTVP+ was issued by ICA which allows to work but I think ICA has stopped it.
He is currently working here under Employment Pass EP (please refer to my original post). We just don't want him to be deported in case he lose his job as his company has started doing lay offs

Yes, you can contact and request ICA to speed up the process.
Thanks

Thanks for clarifying your marriage status and declaration in Singapore.

The last part of my answer about LTVP was, in the event he lost his present job and you need to apply LTVP for him to stay here. Or else why you would apply LTVP when he is obtaining EP. So, I was highlighted that even though if he obtains LTVP but can’t work. Good luck you both.

Hi Surya

You mentioned here
heir guidance.

Secondly, with LTVP he can’t work here. He must have a sponsor in order for him to work. Earlier, LTVP+ was issued by ICA which allows to work but I think ICA has stopped it.

You said with LTVP he can’t work here but my husband is a LTVP holder and he is working here in Singapore. What do you mean he must have a sponsor? Ever since when has ICA STOP allowing LTVP to work here in Singapore?

It is correct that your husband cannot work with LTVP alone - he also has to get an LoC.
The difference between LTVP and LTVP+ was that LTVP+ holders could apply for an LoC to work for an employer (who sponsors it - that's what Surya meant!). Now all LTVPs have that option and thus the "+" was dropped from the name.
