Residence in Brazil after marriage

Post new topic

I may have screwed up.

I got married to a Brazilian citizen and she is in Brazil, I am in the U.S.
Edit: we did a proxy marriage in kansas and it has a hague apostille. Is this not valid to register in brazil so I can live with her?

I was under the impression i could do the following:
Have my passport, hague apostille marriage certificate, and my own important docs (birth cert, license, etc.)... arrive in Brazil with my passport, and begin the process THERE in Brazil to live there.

Now, I read I was supposed to have possibly applied for VIPER or temp residence visa at the least, before I went.

My flight is September 6th. Should I change it? The marriage certificate is here with me in the States.  I intended on going there with my passport thought, as long as it was a registered marriage, I coukd begin applying for residence in Brazil and they wouldnt force me back to the states before it was over.

You haven't screwed anything up yet.

Go to the website of the Brazilian Consulate General in Chicago, and apply for a VITEM XI visa.   You'll probably need to postpone your departure for a few weeks, but things should go more smoothly when you get to Brazil.

Were you married in the US?  If so, ask about registering your marriage at the Consulate when you're in touch with them.  That will make things easier here, too.

They said I can register in Brazil as long as it has apostille.

Also, so is it impossible to do everything while living in Brazil at this point? (I go to brazil and start everything while there)

Do you have your FBI Background Check?  That's usually the long pole in the tent.

If you do, if you have all of the documents that the Federal Police require, and they're perfect, they should accept your application.   Have Sworn Translations of all documents (this can be done in Brazil), and have your spouse go to the Federal Police with you.  Good luck.

Do i have to have family reunion visa or work permit submitted before I go?

Fbi background check
My birth cert (long form).... does this need apostille?
My soc card
Proof of residence
License
Hague apostille marriage cert from Kansas
2 tiny photos of myself
My passport
Itinerary

Docs on her end:
Her birth cert
Her passport
Her ident card

The FP will be looking for a family reunion visa (VITEM XI), but if you enter the country as a tourist,  they'll probably still accept your application, regardless.

FBI Background Check - should have apostille from US Department of State

Birth Certificate  - should have apostille from issuing state

Marriage Certificate  - should have apostille from issuing state

Passport - no apostille required

You shouldn't have to submit your Driver's License to the Federal Police; later, you can submit it to your state DETRAN (with a Sworn Translation, but no apostille required)  to  be issued a Brazilian Driver's License.

You shouldn't have to submit your Social Security Card to anyone.

*ETA* "Proof of Residence" means proof of residence in Brazil  - usually a utility bill in your name, or a lease.  Something in your spouse's name will probably suffice.

So, is there any chance someone may be able to help with work? I play the cello and some piano, have a lot of experience with heavy equipment and some construction experience.
