My wife and I have just moved to Malta from the U.K. We know that bottled water is advisable for drinking, but would tap water that’s been filtered be ok to drink?  I’m thinking of saving the pennies as well as all that plastic..

For my kettle and coffee machine, I use a Brita WD3020 WATERBAR system. Two tap inlets, one for filtered cold water, the other hot and cold unfiltered.

I didn't like the idea and management of a Brita jug filter. I am lazy.

It works for me.

Purchased on the cheap from eBay and self installed.

An ok option is those big bottles of water you see in offices. 18L each we get 5 delivered to our door for 21.50. No plastic waste and less hassle, not exactly cheap though.

300 or so should get you a home reverse osmosis system if you own a house

We went for the 18.5 litre option via Ecopure (the people who brew Cisk).  Yes easier than the bottle packs from the shop and not on a contract, works out at 3,92€ a bottle (32 bottles) Six pack 2.5 litre at the moment 2,99€ Plus the deposit for 4 delivered bottles and the dispenser total 192€ ish.
I thought the water was already reversed osmosis, correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t this process just take the salt out of sea water so it’s drinkable or does it filtrate the water to remove the impurities.
We had to filter the water back in the U.K. and it worked out at £17 every 3 months just for the filters.
Just a thought ( not being a Yorkshireman has anything to do with it!).

The tap water is generally desalinated and filtered using RO yes, but then things like chlorine is added and its pumped to you through victorian area pipes after being stored and so forth. Water quality as you can tell from taps is pretty gross and hard.

A home reverse osmosis filter will filter to a smaller scale of 0.001 micrometers which removes even smells from water.

We got ourselves a little filter system (https://tappwater.mt/) this summer and we could not be happier. You just attach it to your tap and with one easy move you switch to super clean and tasty water. The filter needs to be changed every 3 months and it is really cost-effecient. The guys working at TAPP are super helpful and friendly and they happily assist with everything. No need to buy or carry huge bottles or mess around with filtering water ever again. Excellent for the environment is also a big plus. Check out their website, see how it works and read the reviews and you will be convinced. We received the item less than 24 hours after putting in the order. Highly recommended!
