Short car trips to UK under Dec'20 Covid experiences?

Has anyone yet made a less than 48 hour visit to the UK by car since the new 'strain' of Covid caused the French Government to require a positive test certificate?
Are the French actually checking this? Did you get your test in Belgium before leaving, or the UK before returning?
