Hi.
My name is Mike. My family and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. My wife and I are startup entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. We also have a 9yo son.
We plan to relocate to Hangzhou for ~16 months starting June, 2023. We've done a fair amount of preliminary research, but it's time to start getting serious. I hope to use this forum for more than the passive resource it's been so far.
I look forward to connecting with a few folks who've blazed the trail before us.
Mike.
Hi there,
It's Ling here. I am a Paediatric Speech and Language Pathologist wanting to spread the wonderful work of Speech Pathology to people in China and to mates away from home.
I am hoping to relocate to Shanghai at the end of 2021 to share my knowledge and experiences with children, adults and families who are interested in Speech Pathology as I know this allied health area is something that is still uncommon in China. In the meantime reach out to me for a chat about what Speech Pathology might be able to offer you or your child who are learning 2 languages or simply if you would like a chinwag.
"Keep chatting away"
Cheers.
I’m John, moving over from Santa Cruz, CA, USA. I’ve been traveling to China heavily since 2014 for work, and now that travel is a major hassle I moved over to be full time based in Shenzhen. I’ll be living in the futian district. I am halfway through my lovely quarantine in Guangzhou now.
I’m primarily looking to make friends and learn about local events. Send me a message if you can invite me to wechat groups or other ways to communicate. Thanks.
Hi all, my name is Frank and I have a business English training company and a translation company. Please feel free to contact me.
Hello there, I live in China now, I like here
Hi everyone
I’m ALINA from Singapore and started teaching in China since 2016. Currently, in Guangzhou. The best province I’ve lived in was in Zhejiang [According to the locals here, it’s said to be the second heaven and earth besides Suzhou].
If you are by any chance posted to Guangzhou, be prepared to pack your suit case for three different types of weather in a day during spring [in fact it feels like summer]. In winter, based on my 2 years experience here, the lowest temperature during winter was 5 degrees but it’s only for couple of days.
I have not travelled extensively within Guangzhou but Tianhe is the place to be for food, shopping and dining.
Life’s a bliss if you are adaptable, understanding and cultural embrace.
Hi, I would like to do business with Chinese people. I live in ivory coast, west of Africa . I word in agriculture
Hello all. My name is Morgan McClure. I have lived in Nanchong (Sichuan) since 2011 where I teach at Nanchong Vocational and Technical College as well as serve as an editor and researcher at North Sichuan Medical College (Department of Radiology and Imagery). My wife, of six years (Sun Ling) is Chinese from Suzhou where she lived 47 years. Her older sister and brother live in Shanghai.
Unfortunately we left for our winter holiday on 2019.12.26 and have been stranded in Charleston, South Carolina since that time staying with my side of the family. We hope to be back home in Nanchong as soon as the pandemic restrictions are lifted.

Hi, My name is Sharon and I am from Ontario Canada. I have just been offered an English Teaching Job in Shenzhen and currently trying to find out about getting my documents authenticated and apply for my z visa. I have run into difficulties as the Toronto Chinese Visa Application Service Centre is currently closed due to Covid. I am trying to find out if visa applications for Canadians to work in China are currently being processed and I am also trying to find out if I will need to be vaccinated for Covid before being able to come and work in China. If there are any fellow Canadians out there who have recently applied for a visa or are currently in the process I would love to here from you. Thanks
How/s Penang. I am from Malaysia, will be working in Chengdu this summer.
Penangites speak Mandarin so I think you have no problem.
Hello, my name is Jordan. I'm Canadian and recently moved from Hong Kong to Shanghai.
I'm looking for an expat who has a 365 day or greater validity Chinese resident permit that was issued in Beijing or Shanghai.
Due to my resident permit being issued 355 days instead of 365 my furniture that I am shipping from Hong Kong to Shanghai is now "inadmissible" according to China customs.
If I could use your name on the furniture shipment it would be greatly appreciated. To clarify, I would just use your name and present a copy of your resident permit to my shipping company. I am willing to compensate.
Thank you,
Jordan
Hello everyone. I apologize because I think I posted in the wrong section initially. Recently I got a job in China and I am in the process of applying for a visa. It looks like applying for a visa for China is a lot of work. I hope I can get some help here.
Hi, honest737 -
Where are you located now?
Hi hkturner
I am currently located in the USA and I am in the process of applying for a visa to go to China. It is a bit of nightmare, but I will try my best.
Welcome! I am in the UK and going through the visa process. If you are on FB there is a great group called "Foreigners stuck outside of China". The majority of people on there seem to be in the US. Hope that helps.
Hi HattieM. Thanks for your message. So what does FB stand for? It looks like I could get a lot of information from it, since here are people who are in the US?
Thanks BeijingBob. Never crossed my mind that its Facebook.

Hi there I'm Georgia, just moved to Shanghai from Singapore (where I lived for 3.5 years). I am originally from the UK I just finished my 14+7 days quarantine, now looking for apartments and exploring the city!! Would love to talk to others who are new to China to hear your experiences or other people who live in Shanghai to make friends.
I am Chinese but live in Guangzhou. Guangzhou is nice I think.
Hiya, I am thinking of moving to Suzhou with my dog. Can anyone give me some info on what it is like to have a dog there? Are there any parks I could let my dog off the leash?
Hi, First you should look for someone in Suzhou to ask specifically about your dog. Many cities in China have restrictions regarding the size of dogs allowed within the city limits. What breed/breeds is he/she? How big? What westerners consider to be a large breed and what Chinese do are two different things. We have two golden retrievers which coming from the States I’d consider a medium size dog when compared to Rottweilers or Danes etc. But Chinese consider our Goldens to be a large breed. Also, have you nailed down a job yet? I’m assuming you have. Otherwise you should know China is not a country you can just move to. You can take your chances and come on a tourist visa and hope to find something during normal times but currently in the pandemic era you are not going to get a tourist visa approved. You will need the job first. Then your employer should be able to help you figure out the local regulations regarding your dog and how long each of you will need to quarantine for. Good luck
hi Georgia, Congrats for passing through the quarantine, and again welcome to shangha
