Hello,
Are there any expats with kids here? I am wondering what your school choices are? do you prefer an international school or homeschool?
I am thinking about relocating specifically to the North coast with a child in elementary school and this is my biggest concern.
I would really appreciate any input.
Thanks

Jwoddis

My kid is at ISLA in las Terrenas.  There are pros and cons - the Cabarete campus is bigger and more mature (only 2nd year in LT).  In general my 6 year old really likes it tho.

While I cannot comment on schools I will welcome you to the forums!

Hi Jwoddis

After seeing your comment about ISLA in Las Terrenas I looked up the school website and it looks really interesting!

I am not in DR yet but am considering moving there with my Dominican wife and 3 children. One child would be finished high school by the time we make the move but my 2 boys are 8 and 6 at the moment and would need a place in an international school.

When you say 'only 2nd year in Las Terrenas' do you mean your kids second year in the school or that the school is only open 2 years?

Hello,  I’m a certified teacher for 20 years now. Taught in New Jersey and NYC  schools  for 12 years and have been working with home schooled children for nine  years.  I’ll be happy to help and guide anyone. I love talking shop. Also, my husband and I will be moving to Las Terras in September.   Please feel free to message me with questions about education, home school and if need be,  requirements from your state/ country.

Carol, I hope you wont advise to do as the Mayo of NYC did. Remember, he changed those 'special schools', for really smart kids, into schools that are 'nothing special at all'.  Its the woke thing to do.

LOL, agreeing with you fully.  I am  for giving all a fair chance, but I am definitely not for watering down education more that it already is.  Is one of the reasons why I have chosen to work independently.

Hi we just moved to sosua about a month ago and We have already chosen Isla for my 6 yo . It’s chill and nature oriented which is also our vibe. They seem to focus on respect for the individual and grow a love for learning through involving the kids in the process and allowing them a voice and  that was very important to us  rather than just impose a curricula
We looked into ISS which is a much bigger
Campus and has more years but it is also more expensive. We also went to another one which I really don’t remember the name but it seemed to “stiffed” and conservative for our taste.
I recommend a quick online browsing and once you get here visit them personally. Make sure you have the previous report cards and vaccination records as they will definitely ask for those
Other than that is a fairly simple process
Good luck

Hi. We just moved to La Romana.
My children will be attending Colegio Saint John... and I will be working there too.
