Tax allowance for dependent spouse

Post new topic

Dear all,

I would need your advice regarding tax allowance for non EU dependent spouse.

I got married in 2020 and the dependent spouse visa for my wife is currently under progress. I updated my status to married with my employer last year.

My question is, since my spouse is dependent, will I be eligible for additional tax allowance this year 2021.
My wife is currently in my home country , (will join me once dependent visa is processed). Now, my HR is not very much aware of situation if I am eligible for tax allowance currently, as my wife is not staying in Belgium.
.
Can anyone please shed light on this topic. Thanks in advance.

Assuming you are working for a local Belgium company and paying Social securities in Belgium. You need to provide details about your spouses working status( if she is working or not working ) to your tax consultant he will then give you a better answer about any applicable tax exemptions.

Thanks for information. I would like to know if we should register somewhere about our civil status, my employer updated my status to married. But, they are not aware of situation when my spouse is still in India (as Visa is still under process), how the tax exemption works.

You can get allowance even if your partner is not arrived to Belgium (or at-least that's the case for me). Regarding exemption i think tax consultant can guide you for my company they work with some 3rd party company who handle all tax/pay stuff.
