Vaccines required in France

Post new topic

Diksha

Hello everybody,

When living or moving abroad, and in particular in France, vaccination against certain diseases is often required to enter the country or to avoid risks.

We would like to ask you a few questions to help future expats there.

What is your relationship to vaccines in general?

Did you get vaccinated before moving to France?
Were these vaccinations compulsory or recommended?

Did you refuse to get any vaccine that was recommended for France? If so, why?

If you are an expatriate in France, are you encouraged to get a COVID-19 vaccine? Do you have access to the vaccine and do you plan to get it?

Is this vaccine required for entering the country now?

Many thanks,

Diksha,

What is your relationship to vaccines in general? Had them all as a kid in California (1950's)
Did you get vaccinated before moving to France? No need
Were these vaccinations compulsory or recommended? No need
Is the COVID-19 vaccine required for entering the country now? Not yet, but one must have a visa

Bonne chance,

I am an expat, living in France since 1980.  I will get vaccinated against Covid19 as soon as this is possible for my age group (between 65 and 75).
Of course, before coming to France, I had the usual vaccines when I was a child.  I also had vaccines before travelling to Brazil in 1993 and 1994.  I am entitled to flu vaccines every year and get the necessary document through the post from the French Social Security.  This costs nothing because of my age.  I usually get vaccinated against flu at my local chemist, just a few minutes down the road.  So that's my 'vaccine history' !  Bonne journée !

I have had the letter re the Covid Vac. BUT almost impossible to get an appointment and there is at least a month delay if you do get an appointment. I am 74. I live in the north of France. My neighbours mother also cant get appointment, also another friend his mother cant get appointment.  Really is something UK has organised well the roll out of the jab.

I am in North France 62. I got my vac letter about 3 weeks ago, but getting an appointment seems impossible. I am 74.

Hi Diksha,

So, usually before Covid-19 days there was no Vaccines required of you before travelling, however with Covid-19 for sure you will need to do Covid test.

Apurwa Trivedi

I have been living in France since 2016 and never been asked for producing my vaccination record. To answer your questions-
What is your relationship to vaccines in general? Been vaccinated like many others, and additional flu shots when I had to work at the hospital in Boston. While travelling to Brazil, got vaccinated for yellow fever and few more precautionary ones in France which was all covered by my insurance.
Did you get vaccinated before moving to France?   Nope
If you are an expatriate in France, are you encouraged to get a COVID-19 vaccine? Yes, but will have to wait for my turn.
Do you have access to the vaccine and do you plan to get it? No,I do not. However, as soon as people at risks are vaccinated countrywide, the government might make it accessible by 'doctolib app' (basically an app to book an appointment with Doc) and at the pharmaceutical stores.
Is this vaccine required for entering the country now? Not as of today (24th Feb 21), but there is a possbility that they might.

Bonsoir a tous,
Hi I'm a hotel owner since 2019 in France. (good timing I hear you say!).
Apart from dealing with development works, star affiliation, insurance,"fonds de soldarite, pret guarrantee de l'etat, gas, water, lift contract, fire alarm contract, plumbers, electricians, websites and channel managing software!!!
(I think that's all but beg my forgiveness if I've omitted something! 😉
I've been trying to get my vaccine, so here's how it's gone.on

I went to 2 town halls which sent me to the vaccination centre who sent me to the prefecture who sent me to the pharmacy who sent me to the local hospital here in Lourdes! (Are you keeping up with me? I hope so...)
Anyway, none know the rules and you can download various applications and registration applications too, ha good luck with that!!!
Ultimately ALL these professionals are uninformed here!!
Ok so now on to me, a bit of background, -
I personally had a near life threatening accident in 1994 in Mallorca and spent about 10 months in hospital as a result, with multiple operations post.

Ok so the problems related to COVID are pnumethorax (punctured lung) and asthma and am declared as disabled.
Although I have business and am resident here, I am not affiliated to Assurance Maladie nor Carte Vitale as I continue treatment in UK.
Sor here's the Rub!!!

ALL medical professionals have misquoted me saying you need a Carte Vitale, this is NOT the case.
If you are residant in France you (stated on 27/1/21) and are foreign, UK in my case , you do not need to be part of the French social security.
If you can prove you are permitted to have the vaccine in UK you should be able to have an appointment and be vaccinated in France free of charge.

So how do you get you foot on the run of the ladder?

A doctor cannot deny or stop you registering for a vaccine and MUST do so, wether you register with that clinic for further medical treatment or not it is entirely up to you.
Probably as clear as mud, but I hope it helps?!!
Good luck with it, this is 2 months of research slog!!!

I have come back to France after 13 yrs away, I still don't have a Social Security number ( can't access my old one anymore for some reason).

Through here
https://www.sante.fr/cf/centres-vaccination-covid.html
I found the vaccination centers near me and found one with available appointments,  i informed the person doing the paperwork that I had no Social Security number yet,  she did the paperwork and I got my 1st Pfizer shot last week, as well as the appointment for the 2nd one.

I live in l'Ain in the greater Lyon area.

Regarding all the other vaccines, in over 35 years of entering this country as both a tourist and a resident, have never been asked for vaccines.
They require prove of vaccines if you are a child and are going to school or later on if you go to university.
Hope this  helps.

Hi I'm French and would say that I do not trust the vaccine system, I have travelled the world (70 countries) including 3 years in Africa (yellow fever free zones) and I have never taken any vaccine for my 10 years around the world life so I would not recommend any vaccine unless you are travelling to yellow-fever Africa which means south of the Sahara and north of South Africa (the latter country being yellow fever free and malaria free). I haven't taken any malaria pills either, even in Kruger Park or Madagascar. The weather in Europe is mild and the mosquitos in Europe are harmless despite the tiger mosquito invasion in some parts of France (usually south of Paris). I was living in Reunion Island for a year and spending time in the whole Indian Ocean area including Maldives and Seychelles and did not have any trouble with mosquitos from which you are supposedly able to catch dengue, chinkungunya and else. Anyway, I would not recommend to take any vaccine, and certainly not the newly ARN-messenger biotechnology weapon, very harmful although already 20% of the French scared people have taken it, they will die within years I guess. Feel strong, immune system is strong! I'm perfectly healthy myself!

froggy49

It's not a vaccine, it's an ARN-messenger biotechnology weapon, little difference

froggy49

The vaccination will never be mandatory and there will be what is called "herd immunity" when 70% of the people will be vaccinated, but this deadly vaccine will apparently create  genocide (desired) so better not being vaccinated, the population might shrink dramatically from 2025-2030, Klaus Schabb and Jacques Attali forecast and hope for 85% of the world population dying by 2035. Take care all and good luck! Peace and love!

Well there you go atraditional French reaction. Common with every other vaccine ever produced proven in history and undeniable
So reality check!
Yellow fever is a disease NOT a virus.
And will not mutate to the same level, plus it isn't a SARS.
Ok so SARS now I've said it, and here I personally have an informed advantage.
ICI Pharma which was the former name for Astra Zenica (through Mergers and Takeovers) produced vaccines for SARS 1 (or first recognised virus of this classification, (there may have been many prior) and my own father over 40 years ago was part of that same company (ICI, Imperial Chemical Industries).
So "Monsieur Grenouille", the fact you've travelled, as I have too through work or pleasure, the fact you haven't contracted anything, is purely by chance and a weakened variance of other microbiotic compounds and has no comparison to COVID 19, who's real title will prove it is a SARS.
In conclusion, a vaccination is the ONLY way we can control or reduce but I'm afraid never eradicate in our lifetimes.
So the science is there, wether we choose it or not, and trust that the responsible of us those who do not have our head in the sand, will be thanked by the abstainers in time asthe vaccines inhibit the reproduction of COVID and ultimately it is this that will save the lives who choose not to be vaccinated.
And not their superman/women myopic opinions.

Bonjour,

I had covid 19 March 2020 and I survived no problem. Lucky, I am not expert on vaccines and praying that they are safe. Older people deserve to live out their lives, they have invested so much into community and are wise sages for younger people, best wishes Louise

I am somewhat at a loss at your emphasis here especially as, although I believe in free speech and feel all are welcome on social networking sites, while you feel the need to register to an expat site talking about your native country?
Now, from what I can understand from your opinions that your " revolutionary lifestyle? "(I'm guessing and generalising here, but it's certainly the impression you are portraying,)
That this opinion has taken over here, as you will find the conversation was about where and "how to obtain a vaccine NOT in your native country."
I think you will realise, that you stay in the minority, as your are welcome to it for sure!! Plus I respect this, as all British expats will, but in essence we have all decided ALREADY to have the vaccine, regardless of your "revolutionary rants" and so you'll find "you are barking up the wrong tree". (English saying).
Now if your wish is to simply converse in  English, as your appear fairly coherent, that's fine and I think I can't speak for all of us Anglophones we welcome it. However, you will find that your average British person and some other nations too can find it almost offensive to read such narrative nonsense!!!

Yes, you will never get a room of 100 people to all agree, but then again, when the subject matter remains so incredibly serious there is a point to shut up and put up (another English saying!)

And that time has just passed.

So, politely refrain from counterproductive comments to a subject matter it was never called for and WILl create offence to other cultures than your own!

Hi Louise Neil a Cheshire Cat here in Lourdes. I'm so sorry and at the same time pleased to hear you survived COVID19 first if all and trust there are no long term effects and you are in good health now.
As you know there is a small risk with all vaccines.
However, although these are new vaccines, they really aren't yes they pinpoint in different ways arriving at the end same result. But they are redeveloped versions of tried and tested ones developmed before.
The risk of having an adverse effect with the COVID vaccines is less than it is with a flu jab really.
All the hype about don't take such a vacine Vs another us mere politicspfiser it a German American joint venture and needs selling as the vaccine from Astra Zenica us 5 times cheaper to produce so Germany needed to recuperate it's R&D outlay simply that. Nauggty if admit but it's the reality of how economies work nowadays
Take care
Neil
