Pop up ads on the site

The last two weeks the pop ups on the site have greatly increased, to the point now they are full screen and one is even a two minute ad that I can't click off. I understand it's a free site that has to get funded but these adds  are really getting irritating.

Totally agree, Rick.

I'm using an Android phone and the Chrome browser.

There really are way too many full screen popups recently.

And if I sign out of the website and then sign back in, before I can even view the interface for my username and password, I get a big pop up asking me if I'm interested in insurance.

I've decided that that's a big yes if it's pop-up insurance

Report this by going to the bottom of this page and clicking on contact us. I have also reported this as well.

I eventually found it after seeing under the quote function.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for letting us know about that.

Could you please tell me if it is only pop-ups for insurance?

Cheryl

Here is a screenshot of a random popup

I'll post a few more when I see them.

That one was generated when I opened to the main Vietnam forum page and clicked on the name of the most recent poster in this thread (colinoscapee)

These popups are out of control, Expat Blog needs to review its system.

I'll make this the last one I post.

It's a slightly different type but it still obscures the whole page:

FX PRO is the one I get constantly & one about health insurance which is a right pain cos it comes up just as I am mid way logging in. The one logging in is not a new phenomenon though, been like that for months if not year.

The IT department will immediately be informed about this issue.

Must be linked to site name as everyone sees the same ads, if it was cookie related there would be  more variation

Priscilla

Hi everyone,

I would like to inform you all that as we are logged in as administrators, we do not see the same interface and therefore not the same popups. This is why we asked for more information on the kind of popups you are referring to, so that we can give you the exact details you are looking for.

From what I could understand, some of these popups have been directly implemented by Google. However, some of them will be here temporarily and some might be permanent.

Also note that some popups are not specific to our website as they are generated by Google Ads. You can therefore find same on any website using Google Ads.

Hope this explanation will help. If there are any further details, we shall communicate them to you later on.

Thanks and Regards,

Priscilla

There was me thinking google needed permission to post pop-up ads, its how they generate income

Install an ad-blocker.  I don't get these popups at all.

I currently use Fair Adblocker, but I used Adblock Plus previously.

Use a browser that comes with an ad-blocker. Some browsers pay particular attention to this feature.

If your favourite browser doesn't come with an ad-blocker I don't see any issue with installing one, unless you experience something like this:

The article above is 2 years old. Adblock Plus, AdBlock and uBlock were all affected by the vulnerability.

Mine does come with one and blocks the expat.com pop-ups (I've never seen a pop-up while browsing expat.com). Only had to install the webmail ad-blocker extension to prevent ads showing on part of screen while using yahoo mail.

Heck I don't have any problems with the ad's, that's what help pay for this free site to keep it going, and it's a damn good one I might add. The irritating one's are full screen that you have to click on the get rid of it just to get to the site.

Use browser with built-in ad-blocker or browser without built-in ad-blocker (but with SAFE adblocker manually installed) until issue is resolved (issue of size on screen and amount of ads). Once you have word that it's resolved, turn off ad-blocker to support site.

Hi Guys,

Google ads "magically" decided to add these popups without even asking me.

The problem is now solved, I have deactivated these popups.

Best regards,

Julien

Even though my ad blocker hides them, you still have my thanks.   :top:

Ad blockers don't affect native advertising
