Just in case anyone is unaware, you should note that this Friday, April 30 is Reunification Day in Vietnam and May 01 is International Labor Day. As Labor Day falls on a Saturday this year, Monday 03 is included, making a 4-day weekend.

Although the current virus situation in neighboring countries may reduce tourists numbers as events are cancelled (see article below), those living in resort areas such as Da Nang, Vung Tau, Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Hoi An, etc. can probably still expect a major influx of tourists.

Stocking up now and staying home could be a good strategy for avoiding crowds, depending on your location.   :sleep:top:

We will be heading out of VT to get away from the crazy Saigonese drivers.

Ciambella

For this long holiday in 2018, April 30 fell on a Monday so the first batch of tourists arrived in VT on Friday evening, April 27.  There were more tourists than hotel rooms, therefore thousands of motorbikes parked on both sides of Ha Long Street, with thousands of their owners sleeping on the ground between Dragon Slope and Mercure Hotel. Unbelievable.

On our walk at 4:30AM, as soon as I saw the scene, we turned around to go back home and didn't leave the house until Wed, May 2nd.

The congestion was not just on the roads, but continued when visitors arrived at the tourist attractions:

“We had encountered traffic jams on multiple streets before reaching the Valley of Love," Nguyen Thanh Binh, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, complained.

"We wound up being stuck at the venue’s parking lot and ticket booth.

“Although the weather here is very pleasant, the entire trip is still exhausting to me.”

Anyway, it was definitely a great time to not travel. Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday.
