Hi Guys,

I got a new job and my new employer applied for my EP on 14th may 2021. I checked the status once on 21st and it was pending then. Today morning when I checked (26th may), it is showing as rejected. Am a bit worried since the new role was interesting and something that I was excited to take up too. Today being a public holiday, I couldn’t check with HR on the rejection reason as well. With my current EP expiring in august, is it wise to go for appeal or should I just renew and let go off my new offer? I know I will have a better idea tomorrow once I speak to the HR but this wait is killing me more. Not sure how to proceed from here but I doubt the rejection was due to any incorrect information or details. Reason is I am in singapore for more than 8 years now. Before this, have applied new EP 2 times along with 2 renewals and except for designation, salary, job scope or role - none of my other details have ever changed like academic qualifications, personal particulars etc., so I doubt it is because of any wrong information. I am not sure about foreigner to singaporean ratio in my new company but the company is a small one with just 20+ employees. My current designation is same as the new designation but scope is slightly bigger. Salary wise I got a 20% hike. Now I am even worried if my renewal will go through or not. A bit depressed now...

My suggestion, you may choose to follow your own will though,

1. Ask the HR what’s the reason for rejection first up, if it is trivial and the company is required to submit any additional documentation, get it sorted
2. If there are concerns on your candidacy for this new role, renew your EP and stay back in SG (safer bet)

nanoexpat2013

Thanks Shekhz. Am thinking along similar lines too but just a query. Concerns regarding my candidacy as in, is it whether my profile is fit for the role or not is it? I sincerely believe I am and so does the company, I believe. Are there any other factors? Pardon my ignorance.. or is it salary quoted is too high for this role?

Let me know if this helps, there could be a lot of factors that may impact your application overall
1. Company hasn’t posted the job on govt jobs bank
2. Company hasn’t provided a financial report (increased demand from MoM now for smaller firms)
3. The quota, locals vs expat isn’t met with
4. Your educational qualifications may be great but universities don’t show up on the MoM application portal, additional verification requested etc
5. Salary bump is high and no the cover letter doesn’t really justify why are you being offered that amount, not saying you can’t get 30%, it just has to be articulated well to be convincing enough

List can be pretty exhaustive, just outline some main reasons why applications have been recently rejected.

Figure out the reason, we can circle back here, happy to guide you alongside other experts here on the forum.

Wish you the best.

nanoexpat2013

Thanks again. Will figure out the reason and update here by tomorrow

Hi Shekhz,

Just spoke to the HR. Seems the application was rejected on the 24th itself. For some reason, she is not sharing the exact rejection advisory but she said, it has nothing to do with me but rather it is because of the company details furnished. She said, company’s financials were not updated (don’t know where) and hence they have asked for several supporting documents (all regarding company’s financials). She said, since it has nothing to do with me, she didn’t keep me in loop and instead furnished all the documents which was asked and went ahead with the appeal

EP application date: 14-May
EP rejection date: 24-May
Appeal date: 25-May

Though she says, appeal is already done, I still see the status as rejected (read in other posts that, that’s how it works)

Now, I am not sure if I can proceed with my renewal process in my current company simultaneously. Any advice pls - HR says I can but I am not so sure as I think there cannot be 2 applications for the same person at the same time. Also, I am not sure if the appeal will be successful too (and how long it might take)

Shekhz

When is your current pass expiration again?

If an appeal has been done, you just have to wait and track the EPOnline on and off for the status. It won’t change to review or pending, will stay as is until approved.

Appeal status should be utmost 2-3 weeks, or sooner.

EP renewal - I’d say depends on the time on you, for expiration.

nanoexpat2013

My current pass expiring end august. Exactly 3 months from now. I just pray and hope even if appeal doesn’t go through, I still have enough time for my renewal

Irrespective, thanks bro for replying to all my queries. Feels someone is there with me to talk to...

Relax, you have ample time on you at this juncture. Here is how I’d handle/ go about it if I were you,

1. Weekly check on the appeal status with HR
2. Next week, ask them to drop a request to MoM to expedite the review, a nudge won’t hurt (given it will be 2 weeks)- call would be best
3. Appeal result per me should be out next week or utmost the week after, you will know the path forward from there

If for some reason, in an unfortunate scenario, appeal doesn’t come through, work on your renewal first, then ask this firm (if they OK to wait until your renewal comes through), to apply for your pass again (appeal with any additional info).

If financials were asked for from the employer, in all probabilities, approval will come through provided documents are in order. I just had the exact experience :)

Hi,

It is exactly 3 weeks today since the appeal. The appeal status is still pending. The new company’s HR dropped an email to MOM and she got a reply that it might take another 3 weeks for the application outcome. I told her that I cannot renew as well since this application is still pending. So, she called up MOM and she was informed that the result would be out sooner than 3 weeks - mostly before end of next week which leaves me little over 2 months for renewal in case the appeal is rejected again. Seems very tricky. Any advice on how should I proceed now, thanks

Sanchita26

For me 5th week just started and no reply on appeal really worried ,. My case was salary hike was large compared to last salary

Shekhz

Don’t think you need to stress too much. Give it two weeks, if it still isn’t moving then you need to take a conscious call- wait for the outcome or renew. Two months is good enough time for a renewal unless there are too many changes in the renewal application.

nanoexpat2013

Thanks bro. I will bite the bullet and wait until next Friday max. Else will withdraw the appeal and proceed with renewal. It’s been a crazy last couple of months for me.. honestly speaking, i am unable to stop thinking about it. cannot remember being this anxious or nervous ever...

Shekhz

I’ve been there, so totally understand the anxiety and overall state of mind. Have faith, good things take time. Focus on your job and family to ease the stress.

nanoexpat2013

😊 sure bro. will update again in 2 weeks time

@Sanchita26

My EP application also got rejected last month with significant salary increase as reason. I was offered 30% on base. For re-appeal, role has been updated to lead and its pending for 3 weeks now. Could you let me know was there any change in your appeal and the timeline it took once u get to know the outcome

QuickBrownFox

I got my second rejection yesterday. First rejection was due to significant increase which is 25%. For second rejection, MoM wants in-depth details on the whole hiring process and the employer's hiring history for the role I applied. I'm almost at my 6 weeks.

Hope we all got our approval soon.

Sanchita26

Hi no update till yet on my appeal.

Sanchita26

Hi guys my First appeal is again rejected after 2 months.. can you suggest what should I do ? Is there a point to do the second appeal ?
My last salary was 5850 and the current salary which was offered was 7.5 k
Should I ask my employer to reduce the salary and file a fresh application ?or should I look for some other employer

Any suggestion beppi shekz ?
Background : I have total 10 years of experience and last 2 years with Google .
And one more thing to add my sat is only coming at 7.5 k

Salary is not justified and candidate should not command the salary offered

Any one can explain me this reason not clear with me

Sanchita: Simply put, the salary cited and offered to you is high per MoM review. I am not sure by how much, but looks like the bump from your previous job is quite significant and MoM isn?t convinced that you should be paid that much (only implies poor justification while applying). Could you clarify again, how much % bump are you being offered and in what role/ industry?

Appeals normally have an outcome within a week or two, unless MoM has further queries.

Thank You

Hi shekz thanks for replying my last salary with 2 year contract was 5850
Now with new employer it was 7500 ( which was minimum required for my EP
I am into application support(IT sector) holding 10  years experience 8 years on India and 2 years in singapore with Google as client .
I am holding enough certifications as well
I was getting three offers with same salary range .
Looking at MOM I feel I have to lower my salary and the apply again which is so sad ? and also do I need to go for spass then instead of EP ?
What should I do I am very confused ..
Still getting calls with same salary range

nanoexpat2013

Hi Guys,

Just to update on my status, my EP appeal got approved today (exactly after a month after appeal)

Summary:

EP applied: 14-May
EP rejected: 24-May

Rejection reason: Company to submit it?s financial reports for the last 2 years

EP appeal: 25-May (with necessary documents)
EP approved: 24-Jun

I am not sure what to say. I almost gave up. Was planning to wait until tomorrow and if no result, was planning to withdraw and proceed with my renewal (current company) and finally, it got approved today

My new company HR requested MOM to expedite the case, if possible. She made 2 such requests and the second of which was only made yesterday. Not sure if it is because of the request, but in my opinion, that?s an option worth giving a try for ppl waiting more than 3-4 weeks

This forum really is helpful and thanks so much @Shekhz for your kind words and clear guidance. Respect bro?

Hope and pray for all friends who are still awaiting the outcome

nanoexpat2013

@sanchita: I don?t think 7.5k is too high for 10years experienced. Like Shekhz mentioned, it could be because of justification not good enough. Since 7.5k is the minimum for EP as per SAT and since you are exactly offered the same (with a 30% hike), MOM might think salary is bumped up just to meet the EP criteria (it?s just my guess). In my opinion, the company applying for you must put in a good justification that you deserve it. Skill sets u bring in, past projects or testimonials from previous managers or employers may help. May be someone else who had similar experiences before in this forum may give u a better picture..

Just to check, u r currently holding EP right? Until when it is valid?
