If you have a residency card and move address in Bulgaria do you have to notify anywhere or get a new card or does your old card continue.

Certainly your residency card remains valid until the date on your card, so that's the main thing! :-)

But the BG ID card is not just a proof of ID, it's your proof of address. It's automatically used on all documents (utilities, bank accounts, government interactions, legal transactions, car registration & speeding tickets, etc.), so it's definitely better to get it changed.

And, as such, I'd imagine there's a regulation somewhere that says that you must notify the authorities when you change address, and get it updated. (And, I suppose, by extension, we probably should then go back and get our car registration documents changed too.)

In practice, probably no big deal. Mine had the address of the rental contract I showed immigration in 2017. I never lived there, as I purchased an apartment immediately after getting residence. However, it wasn't until 2020 when I renewed my permit (per Brexit) that I got my address updated by providing the notary act. But that was a bit naughty of me, I recommend you take action much quicker!

With the new card, I updated my address at the bank, as I had to go in anyway. But my Plovdiv municipality taxes still shows the old address, as does my car registration documents.

On a related note... I don't know what others have experienced... but I'm pretty sure I've never had a single piece of mail in my 4 years in Bulgaria! International stuff works (well, kinda), but I've not seen anything Bulgarian-generated. In the UK you get a ton of mail, with electricity bill, council tax, bank statements, etc. all posted. Here, I don't think any of them send anything. So while in the UK you'd need to change your address quickly and do a bit of mail forwarding for a while, here it doesn't seem to matter too much.

As I avoided it, I don't know whether a simple address change is a quick and painless procedure, or the all-day bureaucratic time-suck I imagined it to be. Hopefully, someone here has done it, and can tell us what's involved!

You have to change address in your card, to avoid problems and fine.

Thank you to gwyng for that reply. Its useful and any other info also appreciated.

By the way how much did the update cost you?

My renewal cost me money because I asked my attorney to do it for me and my partner.

But I think you can do it yourself (although perhaps a translator might help) for free or almost-free.

If you got your card before June 2020 (or thereabouts) you need to exchange it ASAP (I think the extended deadline is July this year). In which case, you could probably update your address as part of the exchange.

Malone99. Good last question. I guess it won't take long for them to implement this
A lot of people would have major problems if you couldn't get in without being jabbed silly. (Shush) the vaxers will love this to be the case

Before the Woke brigade come on and take my reply down as it violates their standards I would like to say Hello Diksha!!! 😁 If you are still trolling our concerns that is.

since it's something u can't avoid it should be treated as such, like supermarkets (can't stop eating)
i sure hope so...

Malone99. Hundreds of crazy rules, no consistency. On a large car park there is a Praktika store, a supermarket and a small transport cafe. You can only get in one of them without a green pass. The one with the most people in it. As for renewing a residency card then I feel sure they have extended the time to change your old one and a new address shouldn't  be a problem. Good luck.
