Procedure for correcting Surname in the RP card

Post new topic

Amicable4u

Hi Everyone,

this is regarding the correction in my ID Card. currently it has X X X in Nom because in my passport the surname was blank. now i have corrected my name in the passport.

could you please help me with the procedure in correcting the same in my RP card here in belgium.
instead of XXX it should have my surname as per my new passport.

appreciate your help and kindly advise.

thanks

AlexFromBelgium

well if you've """fixed""" your passport as you said, then I guess that it means that either your birth certificate has been modified (or is already correct), or at least you've some Indian documents that proof the modification.

But as far as I remember, only the birth certificate is used for naming convention~
Anyway, you should contact the commune to have the right information~

Amicable4u

thanks Alex for your reply.

there was no issue with the name. they  split my name into "Given name" and " Surname". earlier it was blank in my surname and full name was mentioned in the "Given name".

Do you know if this is a tedious process to correct this in ID card? i read in some post that we need to hire a lawyer if we have to correct names?

Basically, if your passport doesn't match your Belgian foreigner id card, you'll have huge problem if traveling within EU and you might get denied in a plane!
So, yes, you've to fix it, no matter what to match your passport!!!
Keep in mind that your passport is your official proof of identity, not the Belgian foreigner id card! (that's why you always need to travel outside Belgium with your passport & Belgian ID)

I don't see any reason why you should hire a lawyer. That's a loss of money for no real reason.
You just have to go to the commune with official documents from your embassy that show you did a request to fix an issue on your new passport and it was done.
But I'm 99.999999% sure they'll also ask your birth certificate to apply the fix (translation  + apostille/legalization)
==> get an appointment and talk with the foreign department of your commune, and they'll explain you the full process.

==> don't travel in EU by plane until it's fixed!!! (and I should say "don't travel" until it's fixed...)
Travel at your own risk in EU by car/train/else, but keep in mind they can denied your entry! (Even entry to Belgium could be denied as it doesn't match your passport!!!)
And of course, you're fine if you stay in Belgium.......... even if you've to fix it asap

Hi Alex, I just want to quickly confirm what you advise I should do since my family need my residence permit ( card A ) to apply for family reunification. If they need the original document then it means I LL be left with no doc (residence card) in Antwerp for the 5/6 months awaiting the decision of their family reunification. Am I safe to move around Antwerp without my residence card on me for those months? How do I go about this?

Thank in advance of your kind response.

AlexFromBelgium

hello,

you don't send your id card, you must always keep it!
You scan both side of it, you print it and you go to the commune to add a stamp on it (not mandatory, but it's always better)

PS: please open a new topic instead of asking your question on a non-related one...

Adeyola

Ok, Alex.

Thank you very much. It's much noted and I must say I commend the fact that you creat the time to answer our questions.
I LL open a new thread next time.

Thank you.

Hi Adeyola or anyone who can help

i need to correct my ID card name and I got an appointment in June 2023.  How long it take correct the name? Also anybody knows how to get an early appointment?? Any help is appreciated.

thank you.

Amicable4u

You need to first get your name corrected in your passport( First name and last name) should be as per RP card. if First name or last name is blank in your passport then they will NOT consider it.

If you think first name and last name in the passport is as per your RP card. then just take the passport and go to commune and they will correct it

Thanks

There is no dead line. It depends not only on the commune but also the approval from the ministry. In my cases, they take within 1 week.

@Amicable4u - I am in a similar situation, changed name in passport, and need to change in residence card. How long did it take for you to get the name changed in residence card? For me they are saying 7 months to 1 year. Does it take that long?

Samson Philips

@lhamola520 - did you already get your RP with the corrected name?

@Shannen Navarro

For me they got the name on my wife's RP wrong, i sent a mail to the commune 1000 , they gave us an appointment and we went with her passport. They rectified the name in their system, collected the wrong RP and gave us an annex afterwards the pin arrived in our mailbox and we went back to the commune to collect the new card.

@Gamargu
