Life as a digital nomad in Cape Verde

Post new topic

Hi everyone,

Digital nomadism has become more and more popular in the past few months and Cape Verde seems to be the perfect spot for it.
If you are a digital nomad yourself, please share with us your experience of this new way of working in Cape Verde.

What motivated you to take the plunge? And why did you choose Cape Verde as your new home?

Were you granted a special visa? What documents did you need to apply for it?

Which sectors allow you to establish yourself as a digital nomad? What do you do for a living?

Where do you work: in a coworking space, at home, in cafes or outdoors? Is your internet connection satisfactory?

How did you find your accommodation in Cape Verde? What did you opt for: a flat / house on your own, co-housing, or a room in a bed and breakfast? How much do you spend on your accommodation each month?

Thanks for your contribution!

Hello. Can you please explain a digital nomad and what it entails?

CVAngelo

A digital nomad is someone who works online while travelling to many locations for a brief stay in each location. This means that it is only suited to jobs that do not pin you down to a physical location or office, and usually, a digital nomad is self employed and travels light (computer, cell phone, bank cards and a few pieces of clothing LOL).

It also means that the keys to this lifestyle are: access to superfast, stable internet network & Wi-Fi connections at each location (typically a co-working space, but could also be a cyber-café, a hotel room or AirBNB apartment, or even the beach in some fantasies LOL); cheap airline tickets; easy visa entry procedures; good cultural experiences; low costs; no commitments (besides work). How long you spend on your journey and the places you choose to visit are entirely up to the nomad, but does require some advance research in order to plan and optimize the adventure.

There are lots of articles and resources that you can find online describing the digital nomad lifestyle. Cape Verde can be a stopping point on a nomad's journey as we offer all the key components. Cape Verde is also a good destination for longer-term remote work (same as a nomad, except you stay in one location for a long-term, typically 6-moths to a year or more).

Cheers,

Angelo
