I am going to Bahrain for the first time in early august, to visit my husband who is working there.

It will be Ramadan and I would like some advice on clothing...I'm not sure what's appropriate? Do arms and legs need to be covered? I will be staying in a serviced apt which has a pool, I am not sure whether it is appropriate to sunbathe/swim during Ramadan?

Sorry to be ignorant.. I would like to make sure I do the right things.

I think it is a very positive attitude to try to imagine how your behaviors will be received in the country that welcomes you.
As far as Ramadan is concerned, no particular clothing is required. You can wear short sleaves and (reasonably) short pants and skirts.

Sunbathing and swimming are not a problem either, even if the water in the pool will probably as hot as your morning coffee, which very unpleasant. Some residence have a pool with controlled temperature, hope yours is one of them

What is not allowed is to eat, drink or smoke in public anywhere at anytime between sunrise and sunset.
This means restaurants, coffee shops etc. are all closed until iftar !

Dear Aliaa Sam,

I read that you are Egyptian. If you want to live here "Western style" among a lot of western expats, Juffair is perfect. If you prefer to be more in an Arabic environment, then maybe Juffair won't be the best area as it is most expats living/staying there. There are a lot of hotels in Bahrain and as they are far from being full, if you plan on staying a month, you will be able to get a good bargain.
One remark though, if you stay for Eid Al Fitr, prices can increase at this period due to the flow of tourists coming from the Gulf countries.
If you want to be close to Manama, hotels are easy to find in Manama, Seef, Diplomatic Area, even Muharraq.
For your Flight, I don't really know from Cairo but from Europe the best prices I could find are with Gulfair and Turkish Airlines. They both have a website you can check the price and book your flight with.

@pmeikle do not  wear shorts in certain area in Bahrain such as manama city, manama souq and many more places...Even not in the malls and supermarkets unless u love to be watched all the time. Bahrain is not a western country and is not Dubai. Enjoy!!!
