References, please, otherwise this is just anecdotal and worthless for the general public.

Again, please include references.  Your "saying so" is not enough for many expats.  Also, I have read about that and the incidence as I remember is very low.

Not trusting you to look it up, I took 30 seconds to find this: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/acip/meeti … ro-508.pdflink to reference

which states 86 people out of 25 million vaccinations had this complication.  Most were women under 60 (not too young) after two weeks.

He should have said...................it has been known to cause thrombosis especially in young women & even then the % is very low & even then the data is not set in stone because in UK more women than men have had the vaccine .

All my family & friends over the age of 30 back in Scotland have been vaccinated with the Astra vaccine at total of more than 50 people & not one has had a bad reaction to it & have not even heard of anyone dying from it. However the UK government have now restricted/recommended its use to people over the age of 30.
In my opinion Astra suffered from coming to market at the same time as Brexit & suffered bad press especially from the French who historically are anti vaccine & anti English anyways.
I personally cant wait to get the Astra jab be it from the Vietnamese program for over 65's or paying for it privately if or when it becomes available here.

I have had Astra, so have all my Family and friends in UK. no problems at all. Astra has been a Victim of politics (EU) and competitors as Astra sell at cost and others are making profits. latest independent research published last week has found it is same risk level as other makes in reality almost zero. (not including Sino or Sputnik). bottom line is its your choice

Ive just been told by my GF that they will police people who not had vaccine and pass covid on to others,, translation is a bit fuzzy when I asked the time frame to get a vaccine or be fined,,,,, she said that now they will vaccine everyone so maybe seeing your in HCMC you can now get it? The online site for booking a vaccine has passport and a menu for countries so maybe they are doing non-Vietnamese now they are pushing to get as many done while they have the vaccines? she did say that Hanoi has a choice of which vaccine but HCMC only had the China vaccine (this is what she was told by her sister who had it last night - not confirmed if there is a choice depending where you go to get it done).

As I posted previously & agree with your post 100% the UK gov was the major financial backer on the development of the Astra vaccine & coming to market as it did at the height of Brexit & the immediate uptake on it by the UK citizens it stuck in the throats of some of the EU leaders (not all) but especially the French who could not or did not have the technology or their government leadership to do it themselves.
Its a disgrace that a vaccine that has been produced with the best of intentions to save lives & at a cost that even poor countries can afford has been stigmatised like this & muck sticks as they say & that's been proven with stocks of perfectly good Astra vaccine sitting in some EU fridge never to be used & now passed its use by date & OK they did not want to use it so pass it on to some countries that would gladly use it.

If they dont vaccinate expats it would be bad for diplomatic relations, considering VN people are being vaccinated in other countries.

I already registered but not on line.
About a week ago they requested all residents of Celadon City over 65 to go to the management office for registration. Ms My went with my PP & did it all for me & I would not mind betting they checked I was legally registered as living in there which I am.
On Friday all residents between the age of 18 & 64 were requested to go & register at the management office.
From the residents group here on FB (not officially I emphasise) over 65's will be given the choice between Moderna & Astra.

Frede001

Just take whatever you get offered, you will never know when you will a second choice
I got the AZ

Btw AZ it is not approved in my home country

AstraZeneca is forbidden in France for people under 55, forbidden in the UK for people under 40, stopped totally in some countries like Switzerland, I think that answers your question.

Jlgarbutt

There has been some concerns over the age group for Astra Zeneca vaccine where even the UK government had concerns about younger age groups receiving this one..  but realistically who if offered it are going to turn it down?

And if you don't take this one.. what then wait for Sputnik😮

In all likelihood every version has its potential risk s and side effects.

Obviously it would be better to prevent rather than treat, pumping your body full of drugs should be a last resort.

Vietnam has received also Sinopharm and Moderna.
But you don't know before which vaccine they will inject you, it's the surprise.

Sinopharm and Sputnik are maybe less efficient, but they are more safe because they use the old classic well-known technology.

https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/news/covid … lood-clots

The European Medicines Agency reported around 20 million people in the UK and EEA had received the vaccine as of March 16 and EMA had found only 7 cases of blood clots in multiple blood vessels (disseminated intravascular coagulation, DIC) and 18 cases of CVST. A causal link with the vaccine is not proven, but is possible.

According to the most recent decision made in Saigon, all categories are erased and everyone will be vaccinated as soon as each district is ready (they call it self vaccinated).

"The mission is to organize the vaccinations smoothly with the highest possible speed while keeping it safe without violating Directive 16.  There will be two vaccination sessions each day, 3 (after 6pm) if possible.

If there was a regulation on priority subjects before, now all city people have the opportunity to get vaccinated equally."

In saying that my mate & all my old workmates in the office Dubai have had the Sinovac 2 shots & none of them had a problem. Dont know how effective it is though & having it wont get you into UK or US on a vaccine PP I would suspect if they ever come to making that mandatory.

My ward in Go Vap got vaccinated with Astrazenaca today, including my wife and myself.  There were no issues with me being a foreigner.  There was no choice of vaccine.

With regards to side effects, here's something from the Australian Department of Health with estimates of blood clot risk per 100,000 people:

https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-a … lood-clots

Something from the NHS: "For people under 40 without underlying health conditions, it's currently advised that it's preferable to have another coronavirus vaccine instead of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

If you have already had a first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine without suffering any serious side effects you should complete the course (unless there is a medical reason for you not to have the same vaccine).

This includes people aged 18 to 39 years who are health and social care workers, unpaid carers and household contacts of those who are severely immunosuppressed.

As a matter of interest.................if you get the call to go to get vaccinated, how many expats on the forum would accept the China or Sputnik vaccine if that was all that was on offer?

Maybe the Chinese one is ok. It seems they must have had plenty in stock, as they are saying they have vaccinated over a billion people.

From video's I've seen the China is built on old proven tech but less cover than the modern Mrna type which have higher cover rates.

There is huge marketing over which is best and a lot of differing info coming from all sides, there is billions of dollars at stake as to how many of which vaccine is sold, the sad part for us minions is what is "science" and what is "marketing".

If your in the high risk group and life or death if you get covid then are you going to say no and hope your still alive when you get offered a different vaccine?

If your in the low risk group then take what you can and if you can mix and match next time then maybe you have the choice of a better one then.

Ive seen numbers for them like these:-
Pfizer mRNA 2x shot 90-95%  USA/GERMANY
Moderna mRNA 2x shot 90-95% USA
J&J Viral Vector 1x shot 70-85% USA/BELGIUM
Astrazenica Viral Vector 2x shot 70-90% USA/SWEDEN
Sputnik V Viral Vector 2x shot 85-90% RUSSIA
Sinovac/Corona Vac Inactived Virus 2x shot 67-75% CHINA
Novax Protein Based 2x shot 85-89% USA
Covaxin Inactivated Virus 2x shot 70-80% INDIA

I think the vacciine being based on inactivated virus tech is maybe safer for side effects but may not give as much as some of the others, but if as some say vaccine or die then get what you can.

In the UK with high numbers already receiving their double dose of the vaccine talk has turned to when the booster shot will begin and who gets priority.

According to their announcement, more than one billion doses or half a billion Chinese in China, 40% of the population, have been vaccinated.

Seeing that China is the birthplace of Covid and there are more than 1.4 billion Chinese living on top of one another, it's astonishing to read that there are only 93,193 Covid cases and 4,636 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. (Source: Statistics)
