Hi all,
Newbie on the China forum? Don't know how to start?
This thread is for you
We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in China if you are planning to move there.
It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.
Welcome on board!
Hi !
Happy to join the expat community!
We will be moving with our three kids (10,7,2...+ one dog/cat!) to Hangzhou in China this summer 2022. We have never been in China yet and are pretty impatient to discover its culture, language and the whole expat life. I am from France, my wife is frome Slowakia and we leave in Germany!
No plan yet regarding the location of the accommodation, the selection of the school (Basis, HIS, Wellington...?). I would be very happy to get in touch with people who have or have had experiences in Hangzhou. Feel free to contact me!
Wish you all the best and look forward to reading you soon!
Martial
Ni hao, I'm Steve. About to move to Shenzhen to teach in a bilingual school in August. It will be my first time in China. I will be looking for accommodation soon and just setting as much up as possible before I start my adventure.
Hello Martial and Steve,
Welcome to Expat.com
Since you will both be looking for accommodation soon, I would advise to drop a free advert here: Housing in China.
Please consider asking any question you may have by creating a topic per subject on the China forum so that members may help you out.
Good luck!

Hello Martial and Steve,
Since you are both new in China you may not be aware that Chinese cities are very widespread and the greater cities often cover an area the size of a county or province. As such, it would be helpful if you can specify which district or neighborhood you are looking for accommodation in regarding accommodation.
It is possible that your school or company may put you in contact with some real estate agents, but you could also start by looking at renting accommodation near your place of work. This would make it easier to get to know the city without having to travel too far every day. For instance, if your school is somewhere in Nanshan district, you might want to look for accommodation in Shekou, Baishizhou, or OCT depending on budget and preference. Unfortunately I don't know much about Hangzhou, having never lived there.
I hope this helps with your search for accommodation anyway and good luck.
Afternoon!!
One doubt, I'm writting from Spain that's why maybe I don't have the last info about quarentine, but I read that apart of the two weeks in a hotel, there is another week of "auto isolation", I don't know what they consider about auto isolation.

I am pleased to join your group and am looking for anyone who is willing to share information regarding their quarantine experience. I understand that the regulations are/were 2+1 weeks, but now flights are being re-directed to cities other than Shanghai. Can anyone share their experience? Thanks in advance..
