Julien

Hi all,

Newbie on the China forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in China if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Martialexpat

Hi !
Happy to join the expat community!
We will be moving with our three kids (10,7,2...+ one dog/cat!) to Hangzhou in China this summer 2022. We have never been in China yet and are pretty impatient to discover its culture, language and the whole expat life. I am from France, my wife is frome Slowakia and we leave in Germany!

No plan yet regarding the location of the accommodation, the selection of the school (Basis, HIS, Wellington...?).  I would be very happy to get in touch with people who have or have had experiences in Hangzhou. Feel free to contact me!

Wish you all the best and look forward to reading you soon!
Martial

Ni hao, I'm Steve. About to move to  Shenzhen to teach in a bilingual school in August. It will be my first time in China. I will be looking for accommodation soon and just setting as much up as possible before I start my adventure.

Hello Martial and Steve,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

Since you will both be looking for accommodation soon, I would advise to drop a free advert here: Housing in China.

Please consider asking any question you may have by creating a topic per subject on the China forum so that members may help you out.

Good luck!

Hello Martial and Steve,

Since you are both new in China you may not be aware that Chinese cities are very widespread and the greater cities often cover an area the size of a county or province. As such, it would be helpful if you can specify which district or neighborhood you are looking for accommodation in regarding accommodation.

It is possible that your school or company may put you in contact with some real estate agents, but you could also start by looking at renting accommodation near your place of work. This would make it easier to get to know the city without having to travel too far every day. For instance, if your school is somewhere in Nanshan district, you might want to look for accommodation in Shekou, Baishizhou, or OCT depending on budget and preference. Unfortunately I don't know much about Hangzhou, having never lived there.

I hope this helps with your search for accommodation anyway and good luck.

Afternoon!!

One doubt, I'm writting from Spain that's why  maybe I don't have the last info about quarentine, but I read that apart of the two weeks in a hotel, there is another week of "auto isolation", I don't know what they consider about auto isolation.

Hi all,

I am planning to go back home to the UK on 30th June 2022 for two weeks. My work visa is expiring on 18th August 2022.  Do you think I will be able to make it back to China before my visa expires and have time to apply for a new work visa considering the fact that I have to quarantine?

Hi,

I'm Joseph...just moved to Taizhou (Jiangsu). Been in China going on 10yrs. Think I've been through every rodeo show (sometimes horror show) this country has to offer short of jail/prison or marriage/divorce. I just started teaching at a high school (1st experience with high school kids...taught every other age group short of pre-K).

I lived in Shanghai from 1998-2004, moved back to the US for school and work, have spent the last 5 years in Asia with my family, and am moving back to Shanghai in August.

My kids will be going to SAS in Puxi, and my most immediate concerns will be getting a home near school, finding a competitive soccer club for my 11 year old son, and finding horseback riding and tennis lessons for my daughter.

Hi @JUANBCN76

The quarantine period depends on province and city.  Search on Safari Moore Advisory, to find out more.

Hello there, My name is Tim. I'm not an expat to be exact. I had lived in Australia for over 20 years since my teen years and it's my fourth year here in Changsha. I came across your community today and joined up straightway. I'm curious about the expats in China because I used to be an expat myself in Australia and I know the differences between China and the west or just the outside world in general, are so... I miss those years in AU. I wish ya'll the best of luck in your China experience. Peace.
