Shipping a vehicle..

No more than 5 years after fabrication is the rule apparently. So you are probably looking for a car that rolled out of the manufacturing plant in spring 2017 at this point to allow fot shipping and arrival here at customs.

If you are looking at buying something for import, remember that it must be owned for a full year prior to import as well.

A 2017 car has until June 30/22 or 2023.... check on it

Weird question: Has anyone here heard of someone buying/importing an electric vehicle? I have a volt (since 2013…so can’t bring it with us) and we are thinking of getting an all electric SUV/pick up in a couple years to bring with us later to DR and set up a solar charging station…bonus is that it can act as back up generator for the house…just curious…

I have not personally heard of any but we already have electric vehicles here and there are some recharging stations. We are still early in the process here.

This is from another forum, from someone who imports vehicles for clients.

"I have 11 Nissan Leafs coming in June 25th for a client. They are part of a tourist project in the Punta Cana area and will have their own independent charging facility.

The DR is still lacking in charging infrastructure to make EV's viable for everyday intra island usage, but for short haul trips with independent charging systems at ones place of business or home, they are now viable.

With Ley 113-03 giving 50% tax reductions across the board, including first placa and ITBIS, and the range increasing with every model year, they are starting to get some attention in the DR.

"Three points.

1. Quality home charging systems (Level 2) are now under $2,000 installed and the price continues to drop;

2. Having brought in 20 Nissan Leafs this year for a tourist project, I have been informed, via the owner of the project, that the politicos are already dividing up the country for charger installations and the jockeying as to whether they will be allowed at gas stations/propane stations (many owned by politicos) has begun.

3. The vast majority of daily driving does not require an intra day "fill up."

Awesome! We are seriously considering an electric SUV/pick up truck for the DR…not so great here in Michigan even though I  my Volt!

Just wondering who in the DR is going to honor the warranty on a new electric vehicle
or any new car for that matter……..🤔

My understanding is dealers here do not honor warranties from elsewhere.  Same as electronics etc.  Buy a laptop in the USA and ship it here you void the warranty.  Buy same laptop at Pricemart here and you are fine.  It just costs more!
