Here's a true story, confirmed through the source.....

Brazilian lady, planning a trip to the US with her family, and about USD 7,000 alongside the baggage.

She calls in the Driver, a Taxicab Driver, to get an estimate on a run to the GRU Airport. She resides in Sao Bernardo do Campo. Specifically Rudge Ramos Main Square by the Cathedral.  The solicited upon cab driver has about 40 years on the job, a pony tail type with white hair.  He quoted her, this about 2-3 years ago, BR $ 100,00.

She then calls the Uber Driver, and she gets quoted BR $80,00.

She makes her decision on price alone and takes up on the Uber Driver.  Herself, family, travel tickets, USD 7,000 in cash, baggage.

The right way to go is to take the Anchieta Highway, and landing on Juntas Provisorias, to head towards

Av. Professor Luiz Ignácio Anhaia Mello by Vila Prudente. From there on, it is a straight run.

One the way over, under the excuse that route is severely clogged, he detours through the Zoo by Agua Funda.  She is spooked, but swayed enough.  Around the time he rolls by the Zoo, he stops and pulls a gun.

It turns out he borrowed the ride that day, logged in through his acquaintance, but was not licensed to be an Ubber Driver.

The defeated Taxicab Driver found out, after she called him from the police precint, USD 7,000 lighter, missing the flight. and needing a ride home from where she was stranded.

A R$ 30,00 savings turned out to be a R$ 35,000 ride.
