I believe all tourists arriving in Vietnam are currently required to have Covid Medical Insurance In the sum of at least $10,000US.

Does this requirement also apply to returning Ex-pats with a Vietnamese Temporary Residence Certificate?
Thanks

The Medical Insurance requirement is only applicable for travellers.  If you hold a TRC/PRC, you are officially a resident and exempt from buying health insurance.

Are you able to provide a source for that information? I've looked, but am unable to find any stipulation regarding mandatory insurance policies ("travelers" or otherwise) on the government website(s).

My friend arrives from Canada May 9th, and has received his e-Visa without being asked to prove he holds an existing insurance policy. His plans also included a border run with a new e-Visa prior to the existing one expiring, so info on insurance would be appreciated.

I'll be sure to alert him, pending your reply. Thanks

Absolutely. See government link below in English under Medical surveillance, applicable for visitors :

Please post it again, but exclude the " https:// "  part of the address.

Thanks for this.

Okay, found it.

vietnamtourism.gov.vn/english/index.php/items/17003

Clearly states,
"Having medical or travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment with a minimum liability of USD10,000."

Thanks for the heads-up.
Strange that proof of insurance is not required when applying for the e-Visa, nor any mention of it on the official application site

This was all on the forum under OB's post "Vietnam Reopening for Tourists, With Conditions" and talked about by Pogi, OB, and others about the conditions sighting VNExpress and news posts on the $10,000 medical cover needed by "tourists" in case they got covid and had to go into hospital here.

The articles stated:-

"Tourists entering Vietnam should also have medical or travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment with a minimum liability of US$10,000."

The requirement for $10,000 USD of Covid insurance has been unceremoniously dropped.

I can't find any official decree saying it's no longer required, but the website of Vietnam Airlines no longer lists it as a requirement for entering Vietnam.

As of this posting on May 14th, 2022 at 1 PM Hanoi Time, the requirement for COVID testing is still listed.

The decree lifting COVID testing requirements is scheduled to go into effect tonight at 12 midnight, May 15th, 2022 Hanoi Time.

As always, check with all connecting airlines to make sure they are not requiring either of these items.

Even if Vietnamese law says they are no longer required, if the airline has not changed their policies to be in line with Vietnam OR if you are connecting through a third country where COVID precautions are still in place, you may not be able to board your flight unless you comply with the airline's requirements.

Agree with OB. Forget covid insurance.

We arrived on May 15 from SFO to SGN on Vietnam Airlines. We asked (email only, they don't take phone calls) whether we needed covid medical insurance. VN Airlines said there is no requirement in their documents. We were not asked for it at SFO ticket counter or on arrival.
