Da Nang is pivotal to the coastal development and central security of Vietnam. The primary industrial products in Da Nang are food processing, textiles, building materials, and paper and forest products. Over the next few years, shipbuilding, logistics, oil, and gas are expected to become booming industries. In this article, we share some guidelines for finding a job in this beautiful beach paradise city of Vietnam.

The economy of Da Nang

The city of Da Nang is known as the industrial center of Vietnam, and it has the third-highest GDP in the country. As of 2022, Da Nang had tripled its tourism expectations and sits at a 14.05% GDP growth. For foreigners with technical skills or Vietnamese citizens living abroad and looking to come back, Da Nang is the perfect place to begin.

The labor market in Da Nang

Da Nang's economy relies heavily on its port system as well as on industry, agriculture, forestry, and fishing. The agro-industry and fisheries fields mainly recruit locals who already have the required knowledge and experience. However, the fields of IT, retail and education are becoming increasingly attractive to foreign investors. Expatriates are more easily hired in the sectors of industry, machinery, shipbuilding, textiles, etc.

The real estate sector, along with tourism and hospitality, has also experienced real growth recently. These projects include resorts, villas, and a marina, as well as international schools and office buildings. Many hostels, hotels and other related businesses have been constructed in the region, and experienced expats might be able to find work here. Da Nang is also focusing on sustainability and searching for experts in the fields of eco-tourism and sustainability analytics.

Find a job in Da Nang

LinkedIn is the best tool for understanding what companies are looking for in Da Nang. You can also search Facebook for local events that might offer networking opportunities. If it's possible to arrange your contract before landing in Vietnam, that is always easier, but if you are visiting Da Nang on vacation, you can build a strong foundation for relationships that could lead to work later.

Lifestyle in Da Nang

Da Nang is a centrally located city close to mountains and the ocean. It offers a great quality of life for nature lovers, and more foreigners are arriving in this city every day. Culturally, you will find that Da Nang is relatively modern and has locals of all ages with at least a basic command of English. Da Nang is currently in a phase of growth and transition; minor congestion issues are being tackled, and there is less of a commute distance between the office and your house compared to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

Good to know:

Due to this phase, there is a lot of building happening in and around the city. Although this might seem trivial, when looking for a job in Da Nang, if you struggle to work with noise, it might be worth checking whether any buildings next door are being built/renovated before you decide on a rental.

If you work remotely, internet speeds are excellent in cafes across the city and along the beachfront, and there are many modern coworking facilities. At the end of every workday, you can head to Dragon Bridge or a nearby restaurant/ beach bar and watch the sunset with friends.
