Philly In The Philippines

Post new topic

Enzyte Bob

The title of his Youtube posting yesterday " I had to leave the Philippines here's why".

I'm not a fan of his Youtube videos, it always seems to me he is on the boarderline of ghosting his content. Mostly to much fluff, to little content.

So without ghosting: He was returning for medical reasons.

(1) He left the Philippines at Clark airport at 2AM with stops in Korea, Boston & on to Philadelphia.

(2) He used Cheapo Air, P1498 for round trip and will return in one month.

(4) He had to pay P2800 immigration tax and P1000 departure tax.

(5) His reason for leaving: He said there is something medically wrong and he doesn't know what  is.

(6) The video is 16:31 minutes long and it takes 13:48 of fluff to get to the reason he is leaving.

(7) The reason to return to the states (it's been six years) is for medical evaluation because he doesn't want to go to 20 Filipino doctors and one will get it right.

(8) He said think twice if you use Filipino doctors.

I haven't seen this guy before and checked him out...he does seem to be talking about nothing for the most part. Can't believe he's got nearly 100k subscribers.

To be honest it would be great to cruise around the Philippines and just blog (or create YouTube videos) and get paid handsomely to so, but there's so many trying.

I imagine to succeed it takes a combination of regularity, sensationalism, gift-of-the-gab and luck.

@Enzyte Bob $30. Bucks to cheap o air for round trip to U.S. from Clark?... ummm... Nope.

Don't know the guy or his You tube posts Bob but his excuses seem lame to me as 11 or 12 years on and off, 3 of which permanent I find my local doctor in the Lorma private hospital (over the years I have seen him 6 to 8 times) on par with Australian doctors and the system is quicker and a minor surgical procedure can be done the same or next day by the same doctor,,,,,, Australia you see a doctor, they refer you to a surgeon or at worst a specialist who then refers you to a surgeon, and then the 3 or 6 month wait depending on his time table.

Guess what? Very inexpensive here, 400 pesos per doctors visit? 7,000 pesos for surgery on my foot that I suffered with for years and Aussie doctors didn't want to know about it and kept me having xrays and ultrasounds and too many hospital and doctors appointments that cost me a lot of money.

The doctor I see, took one look and said, ah, you have something in your foot and it's infected and we need to operate to remove what ever it is.

So xrays and ultrasounds I asked him, no, my surgery is tomorrow, come at 2 PM and I will operate and remove the cause of the infection. Turns out it was a piece of carbon wire in my foot, he found and removed.

He did and all good now while Australian so called specialists kept me on the run around and cost me thousands of Aussie dollars and achieved nothing but frustration and lined their pockets.

I suppose it also depends if this You tuber was living up in the mountains and had no access to decent medical facilities.

OMO. (yes guys "only my opinion" not "on my own"  not a washing detergent "OMO" mind you I've never seen that for sale here).

Take care and hope all are safe after this last typhoon, plenty more coming.

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for clarifying. Reminds me of a UK comedian (forget which one) who thought LOL was "Lots of love".

His friend's mother died, so he sent the message, "I just heard the news about your mum, LOL".

Now you know gst,,,,,, Goods and services tax?

Short cuts can be helpful saving time as long as every one is on the same page I suppose.

Cheers, Steve.

@Enzyte Bob

what is this "immigration tax" he mentions ?

i've never heard of THAT before.

is it not just the Exit Clearing fee one pays after going through customs once checked-in their luggage for their flight?

I had to pay this once when I returned to the UK, flying with Emirates, via Clark. I think there are various names for it, Airport Departure Tax and Passenger Service Charge being two of them. Funny thing is I did not pay it on my last visit when I returned home flying from Cebu, via Manila to HCMC and then home.

Doing a Google check now seem to show conflicting information. Seems to be for foreigners departing the Philippines.

@Cherryann01

definitely seems so.

Is this something new though, ontop of the ECC required for Immigration to process in your presence prior to passing through to the gate of your flight destination ?

sorry. its been a long 3 years since i myself have flow internationally out of the country. it seems as though a lot has changed (not considering travel and airport covid/pandemic safety protocols).

It is not that new, I think it was May 2018 when I had to pay the Airport Terminal Fee when leaving Cebu. From what I can see though, the Airport Terminal Fee and the Philippine Departure Tax are two different charges. If your a foreigner on a short visit like I was, I did not have to pay the Philippine Departure Tax. That seems to be paid by foreign passport holders who have spent more than a year in the Philippines and who are leaving the country for what ever reason.

Also the Airport Terminal Fee that I paid the first time I visited is many times included in the ticket price, not always though. All a wee bit confusing.

If my memory serves me well, you are a Canadian citizen so if for example you had to fly home for some reason, since you have been in the Philippines for over one year, you would need to pay the Philippine Departure Tax. It looks like you would also have to pay it if you took a vacation in another country. I think Filipino citizens also need to pay it with some exceptions. You may also have to pay the Terminal fee if it is not included in the price of your ticket. That is my understanding anyway.
