Alternative to internet load in province

I still maintain my T-mobile Magenta Max account which gives me 5gb - 5g internet per month. But I blow through that quick. Especially when hotspotting to my laptop and surfing or watching markets. I get throttled to 256kps after the 5gb. So we've been buying load. Two days ago 500php load and it's gone. No more on her wifi already.

I searched Globe (her wifi) and can't find shit for plans and what you get. Their website is basically trash for information.

We do not have fiber here. Everything has to come off a cell tower nearby which is actually decent.

Q1. South of Carcar 1 hour, no fiber, anyone know of truly unlimited plans? I almost don't care the cost. I mean I'd begrudgingly pay $50 usd per month.

Q2. What other non-wired/fiber/lan connections are there? I can't find dick from PLDT either.

thanks

@Larry Fisher I use Smart wifi here in the province. I do a Unli Fam load for P999  using the Gigalife app on my phone and that gives me 30 days unlimited data. There was a price increase so next month it will cost me P1,099.

Do you know if I can use that without changing sim on my T-Mobile plan phone? I don't want to and can't add a sim to my Samsung S22 Ultra. Which still has 12 months of contract for the phone to be free and able to unlock.

So i have dual sim on my iphone with a T-monike USA number and a Globe PI number but bllw through the Globe data like nothing. So am looking for the same to allow me unlimited text and talk and data here south of Davao. Ive only been here two months so maybe this weeknor next i can find something that i want. It does seem that people here pay a lot to use their mobile.

I have gotten a Smart home modem (pre-paid) and load up with 30-day unlimited data once every month for 999P. Globe may have a similar deal as well, though I don't know that.  It works well since I can see the tower 1km away and I run my whole house on it (about two-dozen different devices including wifi for the phones and iPads.)

I don't think I can help here. It's just my rant about a dream. It's about the release of the fabled Tesla Pi phone. I'm hanging out not getting any other phone because of the enormous potential it will bring including solving the problem under discussion here. Apart from several major advances on any competition running off satellite means no more thieving Smart or Globe, disappearing data, ratshit signal, confusing plans, or shops selling load that don't know what they're talking about and see foreigners as walking cash registers. It means only one SIM in the Philippines or any other country and no more need for an expensive satellite phone and the prohibitively costly call charges for use in remote areas of Australia which I go to where normal mobiles don't work.

@Larry Fisher Hahahah - you just reminded me of another reason why I left the Phils. Remember the old 56 K dial up tone on the PLDT line. I can laugh now but at the time it was enough to drive a sane person to drink.

Which reminds me - I think I'll have a beer.

Wyoming is still on dial-up.

We had Globe at home for a few years but changed over to PLDT/smart wireless as Globe had too many break downs. Yes MoonDog the price went up but for unli is a good price and here no lags or buffering. We have PLDT fibre running past the house but not bothered.

AU 30 bucks a month for unli? Cheap. Many of the workers here also connect to our internet and still works perfectly.

Same here, many devices, 3 laptops and 5 to 6 phones all plugged in, competition finally hit the Philippines.

With Globe for years, got sick and tired of low speed Buffering and moved to PLDT and dumb (smart), minimal problems since.

My partner uses this plan. I also have found Smart to work better in the province, but I still keep a Globe sim and  typically used it with the GoSurf data bundle. It worked great in Cebu City. I was using two GoSurf 500's a month. We tried the Globe home wifi though, and every single month they messed up the billing, so we always seem to end up with PLDT Wi-Fi in the home eventually, which is what we have recently gotten in Dumaguete. For 1799 it's well worth it if you can get it.

On another note, (pun intended) I used to have a PI version of the Samsung Note 9 purchased in Cebu, with dual SIM which was great for going back and forth or travel elsewhere in the region. I'm currently on a US version Note 10 (single SIM only) and almost bought a US version iPhone 14 recently until I realized it HAS NO SIM CARD tray at all!  They are eSIM only.. . That's not going to work for me as I don't want to be dependent on availability of eSIM. Maybe the Asian version of the iPhone 14 has a SIM card slot. I know the iPhone 13 still has it in all versions.

@Larry Fisher

The sim is in the router. There is a phone number associated with the router sim I use to set up my account in the GigaLife app. I use PayMaya to fund my GigaLife account. I don't know how phone calls work with that kind of load or even if phone calling is something that comes with the UnliFam promo which is recommended for family use.

There is a UnliData promo for P699 for 30 days unlimited data that says it is best for personal use but you have to be careful. I purchased that promo once and it would only allow streaming like Netflix and YouTube, no banking or Lazada.

I seldom use my phone for the internet unless I'm home and connected to our WiFi. I buy a P300 load for my phone and it lasts for months if I keep the cellular data turned off, which I almost always do. I suggest installing the GigaLife app and looking at the different promos.

bigpearl

Agree Moon Dog, we used to pay family unli @ 999 per month through Gcash but that plan has disapeared but Ben found it on Gigalife app, 1099, you have to load the number into the app then pay from Gcash to giga life, go figure with the old one step forward two steps back. Used to the methodology here these days and we simply play the game.

Cheers, Steve.

bigpearl

pnwcyclist, you are correct, only the US version has the eSIM, all others SIM trays.

Cheers, Steve.

Moon Dog

@bigpearl I've always used GigaLife. My first few months of UnliFam was P499 but that was a promo. Next month I will have to pay P1,099 but I should have enough points for a free month.

@Larry Fisher

By far the best is Converge. It's the fastest here, and it's obviously faster than anything in the US, because that's the slowest in the world right now. True fact.

I think that the portable hotspots are worth looking into. It wasn't good for me, because I have no cell signal.

I got lucky with the fiber.

Unlimited plans DO NOT EXIST! Basically this country is going through what we did in the US before all the mergers, etc.
